Ozempic was expensive and accessible only to the wealthy, but it is to become a generic drug in India soon, followed by China, Canada, and Brazil.
In contrast, the U.S. and Europe have extended patents to protect innovation, meaning it will only become available as a generic drug after 2030.
While generic drug manufacturers have not disclosed pricing plans, it is projected to start at around $15 per month for low doses. In contrast, the high dose costs $349 per month in the U.S. without insurance.
