April 2, 2026
Meta Lab’s flagship store has opened on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, New York, a street lined with luxury brands. A 10-year lease agreement has been signed.
Last week, Mark Zuckerberg drew attention by attending the Prada fashion show.
Analysts suggest that this move is an attempt to capture the sophisticated image of luxury brands, as the tech industry is far from being sophisticated.
Meta has previously achieved success through collaborations with EssilorLuxottica (as of last year, sales of its subsidiaries Ray-Ban and Oakley glasses tripled from the previous year to ~7 million units). The market for smart glasses is expected to grow.
In addition to Meta, Google plans to launch smart glasses this year through partnerships with Kering (the parent company of Saint Laurent, Gucci, and Balenciaga), Gentle Monster, and Warby Parker. Amazon and OpenAI are also showing interest in fashion. Apple has released Apple Watch bands in collaboration with Hermès.
