Time flies by, only signaled by the color of the sky, the touch of the cold air and the emptiness of the stomach.

Day 78: 27 March 2016, Melbourne
You know that it’s a good conversation when it involves a good pint of beer on a sunny Sunday afternoon after a productive day at the library, sitting on a cushy couch, facing a wide open window where a bright white sunlight gleams into a lively bar with a DJ playing hiphop and well-dressed hipsters come in and go, and the topics range from the Friday party that I missed, American presidential election, love and relationship, Rick and Morty, dimensions of the universe, Spanish poems, to sunsets.
The space between us, silence between words, the breath we take in and out…. all become the part of the conversation. Time flies by, only signaled by the color of the sky, the touch of the cold air and the emptiness of the stomach. And without having to falter, we both agree on carrying on the talk about vegetarianism to the streets, then to a veggie bar where we share a dish of Moroccan stew and continue sharing our thoughts and moments.
These are the tiny moments that I’ll miss when I look back to that one Sunday afternoon in Melbourne when the summer was forced away by the fresh crisp air of autumn.

좋은 대화란, 도서관에서 생산적인 하루를 보낸 후에 힙합 음악이 나오고 한껏 멋을 부린 사람들이 오고 가는 생기 넘치는 분위기의 바에 있는 폭신한 소파에 앉아 큰 창문으로 들어오는 일요일 늦은 오후의 밝은 빛을 느끼며 맥주 한 잔을 앞에 두고 친구와 함께, 내가 가지 않았던 금요일 밤의 파티에서부터 미국 대선, 사랑과 인연, 릭과 모티, 다른 차원의 세계, 스페인어로 된 시와 석양에 대해 대화를 나누고 있다면 이것이 바로 좋은 대화임을 알 수 있다.
둘 사이의 공간과 말 사이의 약간의 침묵, 그리고 들이마시고 내쉬는 호흡은 모두 대화의 일부가 된다. 창 밖으로 보이는 하늘의 색과 차가워지는 공기 그리고 텅 빈 배만이 시간이 지나감을 알려준다. 망설임 없이 둘은 채식주의에 대한 이 대화를 길가에서, 그리고 채식주의 음식점에서 이어가기로 한다. 그곳에서 모로칸 스튜를 나누어 먹으며 우리의 생각과 시간을 나눈다.
멜버른에서의 한 일요일 오후에 대해 생각한다면 여름이 가을의 상쾌하고 차가운 공기에 밀려나가는 날들 중 이런 사소한 순간들이 그리울 것이다.
