If you ever attend a Korean wedding, you would be incredibly surprised due to the different wedding culture. Unlike western people, Korean people finish their wedding within 2 hours including dining time.
I thought that this is normal, but after I heard about western style weddings, I realized that western wedding is really interesting and both the bride, groom and guests can enjoy themselves a lot during the wedding. However, Korean people conduct wedding ceremony simply in comparsion to other countries.
The bride and groom enter the wedding hall, and they promise to love each other until their hair becomes white. After that, they bow to their parents. Some couples dance and sing to entertain their guests, or their friends sing or dance instead of the main hosts.
Some people might say it sounds too boring, but I would say we pursue weddings practically. (I am planning to have a mixed wedding between American and Korean.)
Western people bring a gift that their friend would like, but Korean people give money from 30,000 to 1,000,000. Some people do not like the the custom of giving money, because it is burdensome. However, they believe that they will also get money when they get married in the future.
Most Korean women want to have their wedding ceremony in May, because Korean people believe that a bride in May will be fortunate and would be loved by the groom. We also believe that if it rains on the wedding day, the couple can maintain their love longer than others.
Even though Korean weddings are not as fancy as Western weddings, they are still enjoyable and interesting.
