There(Here) be~와 ‘be ~ to’
1. 존재문 (There is(are)~/ Here is(are)~ : ~이 있다)
(1) 서울에는 높은 빌딩들이 많다.
There are many tall buildings in Seoul.
(2) 여기에 몇 개의 동전이 있다.
Here are a few coins.
2. There is + 주어 + ~ing(현재분사)
There is + 주어 + p.p.(과거분사)
(1) 문 앞에 한 사람이 서있다.
There is a man standing at the door.
(2) 문 앞에 차 한 대가 주차되어 있다.
There is a car parked at the door.
* 주어 뒤의 현재분사나 과거분사는 주어와 주술 관계를 이룬다.
(1) 논에 벼가 자라고 있다.
There is rice growing in the rice paddies.
→ Rice is growing~
(2) 많은 인질들이 감옥에 갇혀있다.
There are many hostages caught in a jail.
→ Many hostages are caught~
3. There + 존재, 발생, 동작의 진행을 의미하는 동사
(1) 한 정직한 농부가 살았다.
There lived an honest farmer.
(2) 내년에 이곳에서 국제 사격대회가 열릴 것이다.
There will take place an international shooting competition here.
(3) 기차가 오고 있다.
There comes a train.
(4) 내 여자 친구가 새로운 연인과 가고 있다.
There goes my girl with someone new.
※ 기억해야 할 표현들
(1) be going to do (~하려고 하다, ~할 예정이다)
그는 오늘 밤 그녀를 만날 예정이다.
He is going to meet her tonight.
우리는 저녁 식사 후 산책을 하려고 한다.
We are going to take a walk after dinner.
(2) be supposed to do (~할 예정이다, ~해야 한다)
그 회의는 다음 달 열릴 예정이다.
The meeting is supposed to be held next month.
내가 무엇을 해야 하는가?
What am I supposed to do?
(3) be bound to do (반드시 ~하다)
그들은 틀림없이 날 성가시게 할 거야.
They would be bound to bother me.
(4) be likely to do (~할 가능성이 있다)
그 가수는 자신의 콘서트를 취소할 가능성이 있다.
The singer is likely to cancel his concert.
(5) be sure to do (틀림없이 ~할 것이다)
그는 틀림없이 약속을 지킬 것이다.
He is sure to keep his promise.
(6) be about to (막 ~하려고 하다)
물이 막 끓으려 한다.
The water is about to boil.
= The water is about boiling.
※ 전치사 ‘about’는 ‘근접’의 의미를 나타낸다.
