두려움 없는 탑*

하루종일 너는 네 벌거벗은 반영을 본다

낙원의 강에서

너는 굽이쳐

하얀 도시에 드러내네

네 여덟 돌 허벅지

밤새 너는 하늘을 날아

검은 불과 싸우네

태양의 유산(遺産)을 위해

새벽에 너는 강둑에서 다시 빛날 것이다

횃불을 든 비둘기 떼

핏자국을 제거하네

네 여덟 얼굴에서

너는 누구도 두려워 하지 않네

네 아버지 뇌신(雷神)**만 아니라면

FEARLESS TOWER

All day you look at your naked reflection

In the river of paradise

You turn around

And reveal to the white town

Your eight stone thighs

All night you fly through the sky

And fight black fires

For the sun's inheritance

At dawn you're shining on the bank again

Flocks of torch-bearer doves

Remove the traces of blood

From your eight faces

You fear no one

But your father the thunderer

Note:

thunderer: 벼락같은 소리를 지르는 사람; (로마신화) the Thunderer 뇌신(Jupiter).

*The octagonal Nebojsa kula, or 'Fearless Tower', stands below the Kalemegdan Fortress at the exact point where the Sava and the Danube join. Legend has it that this is the centre of the forces of Good, which fly out every night to do battle with the forces of Evil (which are based in Avala, a few kilometres outside the city) so that day may triumph.
