북한 선전매체들이 독도에 대해 평창 올림픽 때 ‘우리 영토’에서 일본 올림픽에 대해 ‘조선의 것’으로 표기해 북·일 교섭 소재로 전환했다.

북한 매체 ‘조선의 오늘’은 7일 “독도는 어제도 오늘도 내일도 영원히 조선의 것”이라며 “일본이 과거범죄에 대해 사죄와 배상은 고사하고 파렴치한 영토강탈 행위에 광분하고 있는데 대해 치솟는 분노 금치 못하면서 무모한 독도강탈 책동 당장 걷어치울 것을 강력히 요구한다”고 체육성 간부 명의로 밝혔다.

북한 ‘우리민족끼리’는 2018년 2월 10일 평창올림픽에서 “독도는 법적 근거로는 우리 민족 고유의 영토”라며 “독도가 그려진 한반도기 사용은 문제가 아니다”고 ‘민족 영토’로 밝혔다.

평창에 참석한 북한 현송월 예술단장은 2월 8일 강릉 공연에서 ‘제주도 한나산(한라산)도 내 조국입니다’를 ‘한나산도 독도도 내 조국입니다’로 바꿔 ‘독도는 내 조국’이라고 불렀다.

북한 선수단은 이어 9일 평창올림픽 개회식에 독도가 그려진 한반도기를 들고 입장했다.

북한 응원단은 이어 10일 여자 아이스하키 경기에서 독도가 그려진 한반도기를 들고 남북단일팀을 응원했다.

북한 현송월 단장은 11일 서울 국립극장 공연에서 ‘한나산도 독도도 내 조국입니다’ 가사로 ‘독도는 내 조국’을 다시 불렀다.

북한은 이어 3월 8일 평창패럴림픽 개회식에서 한반도기에 독도를 표기할 수 없다며 남북 공동입장을 거부했다.

일본은 도쿄올림픽 성화 봉송 지도에 시네마(島根)현 위쪽 작은 점을 찍어 독도를 일본 땅인 것으로 표시했다는 지적이 제기됐고, 한국 정부는 2019년 7월 일본에 항의하고 삭제 요구했으나 일본이 불가하다는 입장을 밝혔다.

북한은 4월 6일 코로나 사태 이유로 도쿄올림픽 불참을 발표했다.
