이재명 ‘대만 평화’ 정동영 ‘DPRK’ 트럼프 극찬 '미국 선거지원‘
이재명 대통령이 중국에게 ‘대만 평화 안정 우선’을 요구하고 정동영 통일장관이 북한에 대해 미 민주당이 써온 ‘DPRK’ 호칭을 적용하면서 트럼프 공화당 대통령을 ‘휴전 공로’로 극찬하면서 미국 중간선거 '선거지원‘을 보인다.
이 대통령은 2일 중국 중앙TV(CCTV) 인터뷰 방송에서 "저 역시도 '하나의 중국'을 존중한다"며 "동북아시아, 대만 양안 문제를 포함한 주변 문제에서 평화와 안정이 매우 중요하다는 점은 명확하게 말할 수 있다"고 말해, ‘대만에 평화 우선’을 요구했다.
정 장관은 2일 시무식에서 북한을 ‘조선민주주의인민공화국(DPRK)로 호칭하고 “이재명 대통령의 방중을 시작으로, 오는 4월 트럼프 대통령의 방중까지 몇 달의 시간은 한반도의 새로운 평화 구축을 위한 분수령이 될 것"이고, "이 시기를 놓쳐서는 안된다"며 ”트럼프 미국 대통령이 끝이 보이지 않던 러시아-우크라이나 전쟁을 끝내는 데 앞장서고 있다"며 "유럽에서의 종전과 평화의 결과물이 한반도에까지 이어지기를 간절히 기대한다"고 ’4월 북미회담 조성‘과 이를 위한 이 대통령의 ’방중‘으로 말했다.
이 대통령은 CCTV에 한국의 외교 전략에 대해 "과거에는 안미경중, '안보는 미국과 경제는 중국과' 이런 논리가 있었는데 대한민국의 전략적 자율성이 매우 중요하다고 생각한다"고 ‘대만 평화’와 ‘중국의 무력 통일 시도’에 대해 ‘전략적 자율’로 말했다.
정 장관은 앞서 김정은 북한 국무위원장과 트럼프 대통령간의 북미 대화를 적극 지원해 가면서, '전쟁 상태 종식' 등 한반도 평화체제 구축을 위한 주변국의 건설적 역할도 이끌어 낼 것이라고 통일부 업무보고에서 밝혔다.
이 대통령의 4일 방중에는 1일 종료된 중국의 대만 포위 군사훈련인 "정의 임무 2025"에 대해, 2일 이 대통령의 CCTV 방송이 나왔으며, 이어 미 국무부는 이날 “중국의 대만 및 인근 지역 군사 활동이 ‘불필요하게 긴장을 고조’시키고 있다"고 성명을 내놨다.
로이터는 미 국무부가 낸 중국의 대만 인근 군사활동 비난에 대해 “민주적으로 통치되는 이 섬에 대한 군사 압력을 중단할 것을 베이징에 촉구했다”며 이에 대만의 라이 총리가 "대통령으로서 내 입장은 항상 명확했다. 국가 주권을 단호히 수호하고 국방을 강화하는 것"이라며, “이번 주 훈련에서 중국이 대만의 새로 추가된 전투력을 ‘가상의 적’으로 겨냥했다”고 발표했다고 3일 보도했다.
로이터는 이어 “라이 총리는 이 제안(국방 강화)이 방위산업 조달 확대의 필요성을 보여주며, 대만 야당들이 대만의 국방비를 400억 달러 증액하는 계획을 지지할 것을 촉구했다”며 “이 제안은 현재 야당이 장악한 의회에서 정치적 교착 상태에 빠진 다른 문제들과 함께 걸려 있다”고 밝혔다.
트럼프 대통령은 이 직전 대만에 111억 달러 규모의 사상 최대 무기 패키지 판매 승인을 발표한 지 11일 만에 중국의 군사 훈련이 시작됐고, 중국 군은 처음으로 이번 훈련에 대해 “외부 개입을 억제하기 위한 것”이라고 성명을 발표했다.
반면 정 통일장관은 신년사에서 ”트럼프 미국 대통령이 끝이 보이지 않던 러시아-우크라이나 전쟁을 끝내는 데 앞장서고 있다"며 "인근 국가와의 협력을 통해 원산갈마해안관광지구, 백두산 삼지연 관광지구를 연계한 초국경 프로젝트도 추진할 수 있을 것"이라고 북한의 ‘트럼프 자본 개발’을 제안했고, 이는 트럼프 1기에서 CIA 프로젝트로 성사된 싱가포르 북미정상회담에서 트럼프 측근의 싱가포르 사모펀드가 ‘원산 개발’을 제안했던 것과 유사하다.
이 대통령은 CCTV에 "미국과 군사동맹 관계이고 경제적 관계가 깊어지는 것도 사실이지만, 그렇다고 대한민국과 중국과의 관계가 대립적으로 가거나 충돌하는 것은 대한민국 국익에 전혀 도움이 되지 않는다"며 "중국과의 관계도 가능한 범위 내에서 최대한 서로 공존하고, 협력하고, 서로에게 이익 되는 바들을 치열하게 찾아가야 한다"고 말하며, 대만에 대한 트럼프 대통령의 대뀨모 무기 판매 체제에 편승했다.
로이터는 라이 대만 총리가 기자들이 ‘2027년까지 중국이 대만을 위한 전투에서 승리할 능력을 갖추겠다고 한 미국 보고서’에 대해 질의하자 "중국이 목표를 예정대로 달성할 수 있느냐는 한 가지다"라며 "다가오는 2026년은 대만에게 매우 중요한 해가 될 것"이며, 대만은 "최악의 상황에 대비하되 최선을 바라야 한다"고 답변했다.
라이 총리는 이어 "우리는 중국과 평등하고 존엄한 기반 위에서 교류와 협력을 진행하며, 해협 전역의 평화롭고 공유된 환경을 조성할 의향이 있다"며 "중국이 중화민국의 존재를 인정하고, 대만 국민의 민주적이고 자유로운 삶의 방식을 존중하는 한 그럴 것"이라고 밝혔다.
로이터는 이에 “중국은 대만을 자국 영토로 주장하며, 무력 사용으로 중국 통제 하에 두는 것도 배제하지 않았다”며 “대만은 중국의 주장을 거부한다”고 밝혔다.
중국의 2026년 새해를 겨냥한 포위 군사훈련에 대응해 대만 군이 긴급 전투 준비 훈련으로 탄수이강에 3개의 폭발물을 설치했었다.
로이터는 “중국은 훈련의 일환으로 수십 발의 로켓을 발사하고, 섬 인근에 다수의 군함과 항공기를 배치해 유럽연합 집행위원회와 영국을 포함한 서방 동맹국들의 우려를 불러일으켰다”며 “대만 라이 총리의 연설 이후 중국은 그가 대만 국민을 속이고 국제 여론을 오도하려 한다고 밝혔고, 중국 대만사무소 대변인은 국영방송 CCTV가 보도한 발언에서 ‘라이칭터의 연설은 거짓과 무모한 주장, 적대감과 악의로 가득 차 있다’고 말했다”고 보도했다.
로이터는 이어 “중국 시진핑 주석은 31일 늦게 신년 연설에서 대만에 대해 익숙한 어조를 내며, 베이징이 분리주의 세력으로 간주하는 세력에 대해 작년 경고했던 중국과 대만의 ‘통일’을 막을 수 없다는 경고를 반복했다”며, 이에 대해 미국 국무부 대변인 토미 피곳은 1일 성명에서 "우리는 베이징이 자제를 행사하고, 대만에 대한 군사 압박을 중단하며, 대신 의미 있는 대화에 참여할 것을 촉구한다"고 밝혔다.
중국에서 면적 기준으로 가장 크고 대만과 가장 가까운 훈련인 이 훈련은 대만이 수십 편의 국내 상업 항공편을 취소하고 군용기와 군함이 훈련을 감시하도록 파견하도록 긴장을 고조시켰다.
미국 민주당의 바이든 행정부에서는 대만에 대한 무기 판매를 부분 통제했고, 강경보수의 트럼프 체제가 들어서자 미국이 대만에 111억 달러 규모의 사상 무기 패키지를 발표했고, 이애 대응한 중국의 대만 포위 훈련이 대규모로 커졌고 중국은 ‘외부 개입 억제’를 명분으로 발표했다.
미 민주당 바이든 체제에서 북한과의 ‘대화 우선’ 외교 전략으로 북한에 대해 미 국무부는 ‘조선민주주의인민공화국’의 공식 국호를 공문에서 썼고, 대외적으로 대변인 성명은 DPRK로 통일했고, 이는 강경보수의 트럼프 공화당 체제 북귀에 의해 파기됐다.
트럼프 1기 체제에서 북한은 미국에게 ‘DPRK'를 요구했고, 트럼프 행정부가 이를 거부하며 ’종전선언 협상‘이 거부됐으며, 북한은 트럼프 체제와 협상에서 이의 요구를 내놨으나 한국에는 적용하지 않았고, 정 장관은 트럼프 체제를 대신해 북한의 ’요구‘로 변색한 것으로 보인다.
트럼프 체제는 우크라이나 전쟁 종전 협상에서 장기화로 인해 좌절되고 가자지구 휴전에서 일방적인 ‘네타냐후 총리 부패 사면’ 시도와, 베네수엘라에 대한 ‘마약과의 전쟁 유도’가 전략처럼 순조롭지 못하면서 인기도가 지속 하락했고, 이에 11월 미국 중간선거에서 의회 재장악을 위한 대외 전략으로 ‘북한과 극적 회담 성사’를 은닉된 전략을 지속했고, 이재명 체제는 이의 성사를 명분으로 ‘트럼프 체제 선거 승리’ 지원을 보인다.
정 장관이 트럼프 대통령을 극찬하며 "유럽에서의 종전과 평화의 결과물이 한반도에까지 이어지기를 간절히 기대한다"고 말한 몇 시간 후 트럼프 대통령은 새벽 4시 20분이 조금 넘은 시각에 소셜 미디어를 통해 미국이 베네수엘라 니콜라스 마두로 대통령 부부를 체포했고 국외로 압송했다고 발표했다.
뉴욕타임스 백악관 특파원은 10분 후 마라라고 별장에 있는 대통령에게 전화를 걸었고, 세 번의 벨소리 후에 트럼프 대통령은 전화를 받고 먼저 "많은 훌륭한 계획과 훌륭한 군인들, 훌륭한 사람들이 있었다"며 "사실 정말 훌륭한 작전이었어"라고 말했다.
NYT 기자가 미군과 법 집행 요원들이 "대규모 공격"에 참여하기 전에 의회의 권한을 요청했는지 물었고, 이에 "그건 나중에 논의하자"며 "기자회견을 할 거야"라고 답했고 통화는 50초였다.

Lee Jae-myung calls for "Taiwan peace," Chung Dong-young praises Trump for "DPRK," and "US election support"
President Lee Jae-myung calls for "Taiwan peace and stability" from China, and Unification Minister Chung Dong-young uses the term "DPRK" used by the US Democratic Party to refer to North Korea, while praising Republican President Trump for his "merit in achieving the armistice," demonstrating support for the US midterm elections.
In an interview broadcast on China Central Television (CCTV) on the 2nd, President Lee stated, "I also respect the 'One China' principle," and added, "I can clearly state that peace and stability are crucial in Northeast Asia, Taiwan, and other surrounding issues," urging Taiwan to prioritize peace.
At the inauguration ceremony on the 2nd, Minister Chung referred to North Korea as the "Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)" and stated, "The next few months, starting with President Lee Jae-myung's visit to China and ending with President Trump's visit in April, will be a watershed moment for establishing new peace on the Korean Peninsula."
He added, "We must not miss this moment." He added, "US President Trump is leading the way in ending the seemingly endless Russia-Ukraine War," and "I earnestly hope that the fruits of the war and peace in Europe will extend to the Korean Peninsula." He spoke of "creating the April North Korea-US summit" and President Lee's "visit to China" as a prerequisite for this.
President Lee told CCTV about South Korea's diplomatic strategy, saying, "In the past, there was the logic of 'security with the US, economy with China,' but I believe that South Korea's strategic autonomy is very important." He spoke of "peace in Taiwan" and "China's attempted military unification" as "strategic autonomy."
Minister Chung stated in a Ministry of Unification business report that while actively supporting North Korea-US talks between North Korean Chairman Kim Jong-un and President Trump, he would also encourage neighboring countries to play a constructive role in establishing a peace regime on the Korean Peninsula, including an end to the state of war.
During President Lee's visit to China on the 4th, a CCTV broadcast of "Justice Mission 2025," China's military exercise to surround Taiwan that concluded on the 1st, was aired on the 2nd. The US State Department subsequently issued a statement that day, stating that "China's military activities in Taiwan and nearby areas are 'unnecessarily escalating tensions.'"
Responding to the State Department's criticism of China's military activities near Taiwan, Reuters reported on the 3rd that Taiwanese Prime Minister Lai responded, "As President, my position has always been clear: to resolutely defend our sovereignty and strengthen our national defense," and that "in this week's exercises, China targeted Taiwan's newly added combat capabilities as a 'hypothetical enemy.'"
Reuters continued, “Prime Minister Lai said the proposal (to strengthen defense) demonstrates the need for expanded defense procurement and urged Taiwan’s opposition parties to support a plan to increase Taiwan’s defense budget by $40 billion,” adding, “The proposal is currently hanging alongside other issues that are politically deadlocked in the opposition-controlled Congress.” The Chinese military exercises began 11 days after President Trump announced the approval of a record $11.1 billion arms sale to Taiwan, and the Chinese military issued its first statement calling the exercises “aimed at deterring outside interference.” Meanwhile, Unification Minister Chung Sye-kyun proposed North Korea's "Trump Capital Development" in his New Year's address, saying, "US President Trump is leading the way in ending the seemingly endless Russia-Ukraine war," and "Through cooperation with neighboring countries, we can also pursue cross-border projects linking the Wonsan-Kalma Coastal Tourist Zone and the Baekdu Mountain Samjiyon Tourist Zone."
This is similar to the "Wonsan Development" proposal made by a Singaporean private equity fund close to Trump during the Singapore North Korea-US Summit, which was a CIA project during Trump's first term.
President Lee told CCTV, "It is true that we have a military alliance with the US and that our economic relationship is deepening, but it does not help the national interest of the Republic of Korea for the relationship between South Korea and China to become confrontational or conflictual. We must coexist, cooperate, and fiercely seek mutually beneficial solutions with China to the greatest extent possible," riding on Trump's lead in the arms sales system to Taiwan.
When asked by reporters about a U.S. report stating that China would be capable of winning the battle for Taiwan by 2027, Taiwanese Premier Lai responded, "Whether China can achieve its goal as scheduled is one thing. The coming year of 2026 will be a crucial year for Taiwan," adding that Taiwan should "prepare for the worst and hope for the best."
Prime Minister Lai continued, "We are willing to engage in exchanges and cooperation with China on a basis of equality and dignity, and foster a peaceful and shared environment across the Strait. This will be the case as long as China recognizes the existence of the Republic of China and respects the democratic and free way of life of the Taiwanese people."
Reuters responded, "China claims Taiwan as its territory and has not ruled out the use of force to bring it under Chinese control. Taiwan rejects China's claims." Taiwan's military planted three explosive devices in the Tanshui River as part of an emergency combat drill in response to China's planned siege drills targeting the 2026 New Year.
Reuters reported, "As part of the drills, China fired dozens of rockets and deployed numerous warships and aircraft near the island, raising concerns among Western allies, including the European Commission and the United Kingdom." Following Lai's speech, China said he was attempting to deceive the Taiwanese people and mislead international opinion.
A spokesperson for China's Taiwan Affairs Office said in remarks carried by state broadcaster CCTV that Lai's speech was "full of lies, reckless claims, hostility, and malice." Reuters continued, "Chinese President Xi Jinping struck a familiar tone on Taiwan in his New Year's address late on the 31st, reiterating his warning last year that Beijing cannot prevent the 'unification' of China and Taiwan from what it considers separatist forces."
In response, U.S. State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott issued a statement on the 1st, saying, "We urge Beijing to exercise restraint, cease its military pressure on Taiwan, and instead engage in meaningful dialogue."
The drills, China's largest in terms of land area and the closest to Taiwan, escalated tensions, prompting Taiwan to cancel dozens of domestic commercial flights and dispatch military aircraft and warships to monitor the exercises.
The Democratic Biden administration imposed partial restrictions on arms sales to Taiwan, and under the hard-line conservative Trump administration, the U.S. announced an $11.1 billion ideological weapons package to Taiwan. In response, China's encirclement exercises around Taiwan expanded significantly, with China announcing them as a means of "deterring external interference."
Under the Biden administration, the US Democratic Party prioritized dialogue with North Korea. The US State Department used the official name "Democratic People's Republic of Korea" in official documents, while externally, spokespersons unified the name "DPRK." This was later overturned by the return of the hard-line conservative Trump Republican administration to North Korea.
During the first Trump administration, North Korea demanded the name "DPRK," which the Trump administration rejected, leading to the rejection of "declaration of the end of the war negotiations." While North Korea made this demand during negotiations with the Trump administration, it was not applied to South Korea. Minister Jeong appears to have disguised North Korea's "demand" as a replacement for the Trump administration.
The Trump administration's popularity has continued to decline as the negotiations to end the Ukraine War have been frustrated by the protracted nature of the negotiations, the unilateral attempt to pardon Prime Minister Netanyahu for corruption in the Gaza Strip ceasefire, and the failure to smoothly implement the strategy of inducing a "war on drugs" in Venezuela. Consequently, the administration has continued to use the hidden strategy of "succeeding in a dramatic meeting with North Korea" as a foreign policy strategy to regain control of Congress in the November U.S. midterm elections, and the Lee Jae-myung administration is using the success of this as a pretext to support "Trump's election victory."
Hours after Minister Chung praised President Trump and said, "I sincerely hope that the fruits of the peace and end of the war in Europe will extend to the Korean Peninsula," President Trump announced on social media just after 4:20 a.m. that the United States had arrested Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife and had them extradited.
The New York Times White House correspondent called the president at his Mar-a-Lago retreat 10 minutes later. After three rings, Trump answered, saying, "There was a lot of great planning, great soldiers, great people," and, "It was a really great operation."
The New York Times reporter asked whether US military and law enforcement agents had sought congressional authorization before engaging in a "large-scale attack." Trump replied, "We'll discuss that later," and added, "We'll have a press conference." The call lasted 50 seconds.
