미중 16일 정상회담에서 바이든 대통령은 미국의 전략 비축유 방출에 중국이 동참해달라고 시 주석에게 요구했다고 사우스차이나모닝포스트(SCMP) 17일 보도했다.

제이크 설리번 미 국가안보보좌관은 16일 브루킹스연구소 대담에서 최근 중국의 핵탄두 증강 및 극초음속 미사일 시험 발사 등과 관련, 정상회담에서 군축 문제 등이 논의됐느냐는 질문에 "바이든 대통령은 시 주석에게 전략적 안정에 관한 일련의 대화 필요성을 제기했다"며 "두 정상은 전략적 안정에 관한 논의 시작을 고려하기로 했다"라고 말했다.
SCMP는 왕이 중국 외교부장과 앤서니 블링컨 미 국무장관 전화통화에서 전략 비축유 감축이 다뤄졌다며, 관계자가 "양측 모두에게 긴급한 문제 중 하나가 에너지 공급"이라며 "두 나라의 에너지 부서에서 세부사항에 대해 협의 중"이라 밝혔다고 보도했다.

SCMP는 미국 전력 비축유가 7억2700만배럴이고 중국이 약 2억배럴로 양국 비축유 감축이 국제 유가에 미치는 영향이 크다고 밝혔다.

중국 `신화통신'은 정상회담 보도에서 "아프가니스탄, 이란 핵과 한반도 정세 등 기타 공동으로 관심이 있는 국제 및 지역 문제에 대해 의견을 교환했다"고 밝혔다.

문재인 정부는 동북아에서 가장 빠른 군비증강 국가이며 북한에 대해 비핵화를 요구해왔다.
