A Time to Rest
draws fine, delicate lines
by my window.
In the white, mist-filled air,
streetlights
blur softly into shades of yellow.
Now and then,
the sound of cars passing along wet roads
spreads in a low, sleepy hum.
I find myself wishing
there were a cat beside me,
drifting into sleep together.
Outside the window,
the twin trees next door
flutter their leaves toward one another,
moving in harmony,
as if dancing,
swaying gently side by side.
When I close my eyes,
the sound of rain-soaked waves
turns into a guitar’s melody.
On this tender night,
it comes rolling in,
layer upon layer.
My beloved,
good night.
