번역쟁이 은퇴썰

결국은 일을 그만두다...

평생 번역쟁이였던 마녀, 젊은 시절에는 숟가락 들 힘만 있다면 일을 계속 할 수 있을거라 믿었다. 왜냐! 주변에서 은퇴하면 번역이나 해야겠다는 말을 줄창 들었기 때문이다. 사실 일 자체는 간단하다. 책상의자와 노트북, 내 손가락만 있으면 되는 거니까. 그런데 왠걸? 그게 아니더라고. 다른 사람들의 경우는 잘 모르겠다. 하지만 저질체력 마녀에게는 번역일과 간신히 이어가던 번역 강의가 점점 힘에 부치는 '짐덩어리'로 변했다. 번역강의를 하려면 강의 시간 외의 시간 대부분을 준비시간으로 사용해야 하는데도 그걸 인정하거나 이해하는 사람들은 없었다.

결국~! 그래, 은퇴하는 거야~! 100세 시대에 은퇴가 너무 빠른 게 아니냐고, 그만두면 후회한다고 주변에서 만류했지만 지난 30년간 그만큼 나를 갉아먹고나니 남는 게 없었다. 할 수 있을 때까지 하면 안돼! 할 수 있을 때 그만둬야 해~! 만약 할 일이 없어서 온 몸이 배배 꼬인다고 해도 이렇게 계속 살 수 없자나.

번역을 좋아했지만 가끔은 많이 힘들었다...

번역을 무척이나 좋아하면서도 그 육중한 무게에 눌려 버둥대던 마녀가 이제 새로운 인생을 찾기 위해 낯선 길을 나섰다...

이것까지 번역할까 말까 고민하다가 ... 그냥 한번 해봤다!

I, Witch Stella, had believed that “Translation” would be a lifetime job and could continue my work until at least 80s’ if I had the muscle power to “hold a spoon”. One of the reasons is that I've heard from lots of people around me saying they're going to be part-time translators for pocket money when they are old and retire. Yes, the job itself is very simple. It just needs a desk chair, a laptop, and my fingers. But I found that that's not that simple. I don't know how other people manage their lives. However, for a poor-health witch, translation work and lectures at school had gradually turned into a big burden, while the compensations were getting worse.

Eventually, finally, yes, I retired~! People around me kept saying “You might live until the age of 100. Isn't retirement too fast? If you quit the job now, you must regret your decision." However, after overworking for 30 years, there was nothing left for me. I just can't go like this. I should stop when I can, otherwise, I might end up in a bed in a hospital. Even though I might be bored because there is nothing to do and my whole body is twisted, I can't keep living like this.

 
Now, Witch Stella who had loved translation worked but struggled under its heavy burden, goes out into an unfamiliar world to find a new life...
