With local firefighters struggling to extinguish the fast-moving fires, firefighters from nine other states have joined efforts to control the fires. Firefighters from Mexico have also been deployed to help. The joint efforts are all the more crucial due to how fast the fires are moving. So far in the four active wildfires in Los Angeles County, 160 square kilometers have been burned, an area larger than San Francisco. As of Sunday afternoon local time, only 11 percent of the fire in Pacific Palisades had been extinguished, while 27 percent had been extinguished in Eaton. The economic losses from the wildfires are estimated to be between 135 billion to 150 billion U.S. dollars so far.
