꼬리에 꼬리를 물어
2020년 아카데미 남우주연상을 받은 호아킨 피닉스의 수상소감을 떠올리게 합니다.
문장 하나하나에 감정이입되어
여러 차례 울컥거렸던 불안정한 감정을 다시 한번 느끼며

I’m full of so much gratitude right now.
And I do not feel elevated above any my fellow nominees or anyone in this room because we share the same love, the love of film and this form of expression has given me the most extraordinary life. I don't know what I'd be without it. But I think that the greatest gift that it's given me and many of us in this room is the opportunity to use our voice for the voiceless.
감사한 마음이 가득합니다.
저는 어느 동료 후보들이나 이 방에 있는 누구보다 제가 더 나은 위치에 있다고 생각하지 않습니다. 영화를 사랑하는 마음은 모두 같으니까요. 영화라는 표현 방식은 저에게 가장 특별한 삶을 선물해 주었습니다. 영화가 없었다면 제가 어떤 삶을 살게 됐을 지 모르겠습니다. 하지만 영화가 이 곳에 있는 우리 모두와 저에게 준 가장 위대한 선물은 '소외된 이들을 대변해 우리의 목소리를 낼 수 있는 기회’를 주었다는 것입니다.
I've been thinking a lot about some of the distressing issues that we are facing collectively. I think at times we feel, or were made to feel, that we champion different causes, but for me, I see commonality. I think whether we're talking about gender inequality or racism or queer rights or indigenous rights or animal rights, we're talking about the fight against injustice.
We're talking about the fight against the belief that one nation, one people, one race, one gender or one species has the right to dominate, control and use and exploit another with impunity.
저는 우리 모두가 직면한 고통스러운 문제들에 대해 많은 생각을 해 왔습니다. 우리는 서로 다른 명분(원인/이유)을 내세워 싸우는 것 같지만, 저는 공통점을 발견했습니다. 우리가 성 불평등이나 인종 차별, 성소수자의 권리, 원주민의 권리, 동물의 권리를 말할 때, 우리는 모두 ‘불의에 대항해 싸우는’ 얘기를 하고 있는 겁니다.
우리는 하나의 국가가, 한 민족이, 하나의 인종이, 한 젠더가, 하나의 생물종이 어떤 처벌도 받지 않고 다른 쪽을 지배하고 통제하고 이용하고 착취할 권리가 있다는 (잘못된) 믿음에 대항해 싸우는 얘기를 하고 있습니다.

I have been a scoundrel in my life. I've been selfish. I've been cruel at times, hard to work with and I’m grateful that so many of you in this room have given me a second chance.
And I think that's when we're at our best, when we support each other, not when we cancel each other out for past mistakes, but when we help each other to grow, when we educate each other, when we guide each other toward redemption. That is the best of humanity.
When he was 17, my brother wrote this lyric. It said, 'Run to the rescue with love, and peace will follow.'"
저는 평생 나쁜 놈으로 살았습니다. 이기적이었고, 때로는 잔인했으며, 함께 일하기 싫은 동료였습니다. 그래서 저에게 두 번째 기회를 준 이 곳의 많은 분들께 감사한 마음입니다.
서로를 지지하고, 과거의 잘못으로 서로를 부정하기보다는 서로 성장할 수 있도록 도울 때, 서로에게 가르침을 줄 때, 구원을 위해 서로의 길잡이가 되어 줄 때, 그런 때의 우리가 가장 멋지다고 생각합니다. 그게 바로 가장 멋진 인류가 아닐까요.
