Spring Part.12

The decline in South Korea's marriage rate is accelerating. It is reported that highly educated women have higher single rates due to their preference for hypergamy (marrying up).

On the other hand, the rate of single men is very high among those with lower education levels. Men are said to prefer younger women regardless of their own educational background.

So, what does this mean for the future of South Korea?

"I started getting more blind dates only after I gave up on finding a professional man." "I can't handle both work and family..." "I'd rather live alone. I don't see the need to get married." "There are no single men who meet my ideal."

Spring Part.12

This week's 4-panel drawing is based on a newspaper article I found impressive a few days ago (source: Lee Woo-rim, "Higher Single Rates Among Women with Higher Education Levels...The Reason is Hypergamy," The JoongAng, June 3, 2024). The article discusses the increasing proportion of unmarried highly educated women and less educated men... As there is no clear solution yet, I'm curious about your thoughts on this issue. :)
