질문에 답하는 3단계의 답변순서: The 3 Phases of Responding to Questions
이 방식은 OPIC 이나 TOEIC speaking 에도 잘 쓰일 수 있습니다. 제가 managing partner 로 있는 기업교육기관의 데이터를 보면 오픽 또는 토익 스피킹 준비반 학생들에게 이 방식을 적용하고, 각 학생의 영어수준에 맞는 적절한 개인별 customization 을 한 결과, 과정 전보다 눈에 띄게 개선된 답변실력을 가지게 된 경우가 과반수 이상이었고, 점수 또한 높았습니다. 인터뷰를 준비하는 사람들도 잘 쓰는 방식입니다.
좋지 않은 답변방식: Example of a Less Appropriate Response:
Q: "Please tell me what you have in mind regarding North Korea."
A:I think that the issue must be dealt between the South and the North first."
좋은 답변방식: Example of an Appropriate Response:
Q: "Please tell me what you have in mind regarding North Korea."
(단계 1): "Well, thank you for asking me that question."
(질문의 성격에 대한 언급: 답변 준비를 위한 시간벌기 작전)
(단계 2): "As you may know, the issue on the North Korea is global."
(질문에 대한 일반적인 세상의 견해)
(단계 3): "However, I believe that the issue must be dealt between the South and the North first."
(하고 싶은 답변)
이런 3단계 답변방식의 경우 아래와 같은 변칙을 쓸 수도 있습니다:
- 단계 2를 건너뛴 후 단계 3으로 진행 가능 (답변준비가 단계 1&2 없이도 되었을 경우)
- 만약 질문이 close-ended question 이었을 경우, 위 3단계 진행 전에 YES or NO 라고 말해도 됨.
- 지난 에피소드에 올려드린 Opening 표현을 도입하시면 더 큰 시간적 & 구조적 여유를 가져올 수 있음
