먼저 부사에 대해서 다시 한번 생각해 보자.

부사는 문장성분에서 거품 즉, 문장성분에 포함되지 않는다.

주로 문장 맨 뒤에서 장소방법시간을 나타낼 때 쓰인다.

부사가 꾸며주는 혹은 수식해 주는 품사는 동사, 형용사, 부사 이렇게 3가지가 있다.

(명사는 형용사가 꾸며준다. 즉, 명사 외 나머지 다 부사가 꾸밀 수 있다는 소리다.)

그렇다면 뭔가 제약이 없는 것 같은 생각이 든다.

다만, 이전에 이야기한 것처럼, 

to 부정사는 2 단어 이상이니까 꾸며주는 대상 뒤에 위치하여 단어 혹은 문장을 꾸며준다.

여기서 문장이라 함은 문장 전체를 말하는데, 부사는 문장 전체를 꾸며줄 수도 있다.

I did not see it intentionally. 

여기서 intentionally는 문장 전체를 꾸며준다는 것을 해석하면 알 수 있다. 

생각보다 은근 간단하지 않은가?

중고등학교 때 배웠을 때는 시험 볼 때 이게 형용사적인지 부사적인지 이런 걸 따졌어야 했는데, 

지금은 그럴 필요가 없다. 그렇게 생각하니 문법이 좀 더 간단하고 명확하게 다가오는 것 같다. 

동사를 꾸미는 to 부정사

The meeting is to start at 9 a.m.

You are not to leave this room until I say so.

The door is to remain closed.

다만 이 위의 3가지는 뭔가 예정되어 있는 상황에서도 잘 쓰이는 약간의 패턴이다.

She went to the library to study for her exams. went을 to study가 꾸밈

He worked hard to support his family. worked hard을 to support가 꾸밈

She paused to think before answering the question. paused를 to think이 꾸밈

They left without waiting to hear the end of the speech. left를 to hear이 꾸밈

형용사를 꾸미는 to 부정사

The solution was too complicated to understand. complicated를 to understand이 꾸밈

The question is easy to answer without help. easy를 to answer이 꾸밈

She is eager to learn new things. eager를 to learn이 꾸밈

This document is important to read before the meeting. important을 to read가 꾸밈

부사를 꾸미는 to 부정사

He ran fast to catch the bus. fast를 to catch가 꾸밈

They arrived early to get good seats. early를 to get이 꾸밈

She spoke loudly enough to be heard over the noise. enough를 to be heard이 꾸밈
