Live a life to remember 프로젝트 in LA
이번에 같이 작업하게된 아티스트는 Ashia Chanel Coleman이란 아티스트입니다. LA에서 재즈밴드와 공연할 기회가 많이 있었는데요, 제가 뉴욕으로 떠나기 전 마지막 공연때 공연장에서 만나게 되었습니다. LA에 여행하시는 분들 중에 음악을 엄청 좋아하는분이 계시다면, 꼭 Kulak's woodshed란 곳을 방문해보세요! 가이드북에도 나와있지 않고 정말 로컬들만 아는 그런 명품 장소랍니다

Ashia Chanel 인터뷰
1. 안녕하세요? 자기소개 좀 부탁드릴게요
안녕하세요? 제 이름은 Ashia-Chanel입니다. 저는 노스 캐롤라이나, Charlotte 출신 싱어송 라이터예요. 저는 어린 시절 가족들과 함께 교회 어린이 합창단에서 노래하게 되면서 음악에 사랑에 빠졌습니다. 나중에 대학교에서 음악 단순히 취미 이상이란 걸 알게 되었고, 제 삶의 열정이 되었습니다.
2. 노스 캐롤라이나에서 왔다고 했는데요, 지금은 엘에이에 있잖아요, 여기 온지는 얼마나 된 거예요? 엘에이에서 사는 건 좀 어때요?
5주 전에 이사 왔어요! 지금까진 꽤 재밌기도 하고, 무섭기도 하고 모험적이기도 한데, 달콤 쌉싸름하다고 해야 할까요? 또 여기서 직업을 구했어요! 제 삶에서 이렇게 큰 변화를 만들 수 있다는 게 진짜 축복받은 일이죠, 그렇지만 아직 폭풍 속에서 평화를 찾고 있습니다.
3. 엘에이에서 어려운 점은 없어요?
엘에이에서 가장 어려운 건 친구와 가족과 떨어져 있다는 것이에요. 학교 졸업 후에 다시 집으로 돌아갔고, 예전에 예전보다 엄마와 동생들이랑 가깝게 지냈거든요. 제가 엘에이로 옮기기로 했을 때, 엄마와 동생에게 말하는 게 제일 힘든 일이 었거든요. 매일매일 보고 싶어요. 집에 가서 빨리 보고 싶어 죽겠어요.
4. JP Cooper라는 가수의 노래를 선택했는데 다른 이유가 있나요?
What went wrong 제가 그 가수 앨범에서 들었던 첫 번째 노래예요. 제가 일할 때 라디오를 듣고 있었는데 그의 목소리와 곡 쓰는 능력이 저를 확 사로잡았습니다. 전 그 사람 음악에 정말 빠져들었어요. 전 그루브가 강한 음악이 저희에게 잘 어울릴 거라고 생각했어요
5. 다른 JP Cooper 노래 추천해 주실만한 게 있나요?
“Colour Me in Gold” – 심플하고 달달한 멜로디로 너무 아름답게 쓰인 곡이에요. 그 사람 베스트 중 하나예요.
“Satellite” – 그루브가 강한 또 다른 노래입니다. 발로 박자를 안 탈 수가 없어요.
“We Were Raised Under Grey Skies” – 가사의 솔직함이 너무 맘에 들어요.
6. 혹시 또 좋아하는 뮤지션이나 가수 있으세요?
Emily King, ToriKelly, Gabe Bondoc, Hiatus Kaiyote 좋아합니다.
7. 와우 다 들어봐야겠어요. 어떤 종류의 음악을 부르거나 만들고 싶으세요?
전전 형적으로 소울 풀한 느낌을 가진 팝 음악에 끌려요. 가스펠이나 알앤비 느낌을 가진 중독성 있는 노래들을 너무 좋아해요.
8. 미래에는 어떤 걸 하고 싶어요?
언젠간 제 앨범을 꼭 릴리스하고 싶어요. 또한 제 방과 후 활동 프로그램을 키워서 예술 아카데미로 만들고 싶어요.
9. 학교에 대해서 이야기를 많이 하는 것 같아요? 이유가 있나요?
전 자라면서 학교를 너무 좋아했어요. 전 nerd(한국말로 설명하기 애매) 그 자체였어요. 배우는 게 너무 재밌고 흥미로웠거든요. 5학년 때부터 밴드에 가입했는데, 그게 쭉 대학교까지 갔어요. 밴드 활동하던 게 학교에서의 최고의 추억이죠. 또한 제가 밴드를 하면서 경험했던 것들이 지금의 저라는 사람을 만들었다고 믿어요. 학교의 재정 때문에 어린아이들이 기회를 놓친다는 게 저를 너무 슬프게 해요. 저는 그런 학교가 직면한 문제에 다리를 놓아줄 수 있는 방법을 찾고 싶어요.
10. 다른 아티스트들과 이런 작업을 해본 적 있어요?
아니에요 없어요. Charlotte에서는 방과 후 활동의 일부로 아이들이랑 일했었거든요.
11. 마지막으로 기억할 삶을 살기 위해선 무엇을 하고 싶어요?
공릭합교의재정때문에 거절당하는 도심의 학교 어린아이들이 양질의 음악 교육을 받게 도와주고 싶어요,

1. Hi. Introduce yourself please.
Hello! My name is Ashia-Chanel. I’m a singer/songwriter from Charlotte, NC. I fell in love with music singing alongside my family growing up and at church in the children’s choir. Later, in college I realized that music was more than a hobby to me and it became apassion of mine.
2. You told me that you are from NC, but you are in LA now. How long have you been in LA and how’s your life in LA?
I moved to LA 5 weeks ago! So far it hasbeen exciting, scary, adventurous and bittersweet! I was even able to find ajob! I’m very blessed to be able to make such a huge life change, yet findpeace in the storm.
3. Tell me about hard things in LA
The hardest part of being in LA is being away from my friends and family. After college, I moved back home and grew closer to my mom and sisters than I had ever been growing up. When I decided to make the move to LA, it was one of the hardest things I’ve had to tell them. I miss them much every day and I can’t wait until I get to go home and visit!
4. You choose JP Cooper’s song. Is there any reason?
“What Went Wrong” was the first song that I heard off of his album and his songwriting + vocal choices caught my attention as I was listening to the radio at work. I completely fell in love with hismusic. I thought the groovy track would be a great fit for us!
5. Do you have other JPCooper’s songs you want to recommend?
“Colour Me in Gold” – Beautifully written with simple, sweet melodies. One of his best!
“Satellite” – Another groovy one! Can’thelp but tap your foot to it.
“We Were Raised Under Grey Skies” – Another beautifully written song. I love the honesty in the lyrics.
6. Tell me about other singeror musicians you like

7. Oh, I will listen to themall!. What kinds of music do you want to sing or make?
I’m typically drawn to pop music that has asoulful twist! I’m a sucker for a catchy song with some gospel/r&b flavor.
8. What do you want to do inthe future?
I would love to release an album some day.I would also like to grow my after-school program into a full-blown performingarts academy.
9. You talk about school many times. Is there any reason?
Growing up, I LOVED school. I was the definition of a nerd. Learning was so fun and exciting! I was also involved in band from 5th grade all the way through college. Band was a part of most of my best memories from school. I also believe my experiences in band helped shape me into the person I am today. Knowing that some kids miss out on that opportunity because of school funding makes me sad. I want to find a way to bridge the gap those schools face.
10. Have you worked with other artists like this??
Not really! In Charlotte, I mostly worked with children as I was a part of an after-school music program for K-12.
11. What do you want to do to live a life to remember?
I want to help kids in inner-city schools get quality music education despite the decline in public school funding.
