안녕하세요,

제가 올해 낸 영어, 이번에는 끝가지 가봅시다, 책 부록에 구글러들이 자주쓰는 표현을 Lois's Secret English Notes 편에 소개했는데요, 앞으로 매일 한개씩 올려볼 예정입니다.

제가 책 [영어 이번에는 끝가지 가봅시다]에서 말씀드렸듯이, 그냥 한번 스윽~ 읽고 지나가는 건, 전혀 도움이 안됩니다. 나만의 문장으로 만들어보고, 그것을 현장에서 써먹어봐야합니다. 

[로이스의 씨크릿 영어노트 사용설명서] 

제 영어 노트장에 모아둔 구글러들이 많이 쓰는 단어/표현 중, 특히 아래는 회의, 이메일, 보고서, 채팅창 등에서 하루에도 서너번은 듣고 보는 정말 자주 사용되는 표현들입니다. 제 영어 노트에 있는 단어/표현을 스윽 보면서 기계적으로 암기하는건 본인 영어에 별 도움이 되지 않습니다. 

먼저, 영어표현을 소리내서 읽어보고 담긴 뜻을 그림으로 상상해 보세요. 그리고 예문을 읽어 보고요. 그런다음 내가 이 단어나 표현을 어떤 상황에서 사용하게 될지 생각하면서 나만의 예문을 직접 만들어보세요. 그런 다음, 이메일이나 보고서 등에도 한번 써보고, 기억에 남기 시작하면 말할 때도 사용해보세요. 이렇게 직접 사용해야 내것이 됩니다. 한번 써먹어본 것들을 하나씩 체크표시해나가는 것도 재미있을 것 같구요. 

첫번째 입니다. touch base.

touch base는 다시 만나서 얘기하자 혹은 다시 연락해서 얘기하자, 이럴때 쓰면 좋습니다. 보통 회의하다가, 다 못한 내용이 있거나, 나중에 만나서 다시 논의하자, 라고 할때 많이 씁니다. 베이스를 터치한다는 야구 용어에서 유래인데, 야구를 잘은 모르지만, 야구 선수들이 베이스를 일단 터치해야만 그 베이스를 떠나서 팀선수들과 얘기하면서 조율할 수 있어서 그런게 아닌가 싶어요. 

아래는 영어 설명이고요, 예문 붙어 봅니다. 

"To touch base" means to make contact or reconnect with someone, usually to exchange information, provide updates, or ensure alignment on a particular topic or project. It's often used in a professional context to maintain communication and stay informed about progress or developments.

"Before the meeting, I want to touch base with you about the agenda."

"Can we touch base on the budget allocations for this quarter?"

"I need to touch base with HR regarding the new employee orientation."

"It's been a while since we've touched base. Let's schedule a catch-up call."

"Before you proceed, let's touch base to ensure we're aligned on the strategy."

"I'll touch base with the client to gather feedback on the latest deliverables."

"Let's touch base with the technical team to address any implementation challenges."

"Before the end of the day, let's touch base to finalize the action items."
