To play your instrument in the groove you’re going to have to do just one thing - be fine with sounding like shit for a bit. See that high E you always freak out about? Miss the high E. Please. Miss it. Use all the “worry about notes brain power” to work on your “groove brain power.” Fix the notes and sounds later.
If it feels uncomfortable, you're doing something right. If I haven’t made this abundantly clear - screw up all the notes, but screw them up in the groove.
