아들이 죽음을 앞둔 아버지에게 바치는 시.
죽음은 당연한 것이지만, 그럼에도 삶을 위해 싸워야 한다는 의미를 담고 있다.
아마 영화 <인터스텔라> 속의 브랜드 교수가 이 시를 계속 읊는 건
프로젝트가 실패할 거란 사실을 알았지만 그럼에도 가만히 손놓고 있을 수만은 없는 심정을 담은 것 같다.

Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
그 좋은 밤을 순순히 맞이하지 마세요.
노년은 저무는 날에도 타오르고 격분해야 합니다.
꺼지는 빛을 향해 분노하고, 또 분노하십시오.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.
현명한 자들은 종국에 어둠이 찾아온다는 걸 알지만
번개 같이 번쩍이는 이야기를 아직 남기지 못 했기에

선한 자들은 마지막 파도가 지나갈 때
자신의 노쇠한 움직임이 푸른 해만에서 얼마나 눈부시게 춤출 수 있었을지 생각하며 울부짖고
