When they entered, and saw the woman who was to be their contact, their guards dropped instantly. She was clearly the only one in the house and, what's more, she was wheelchair-bound. She was a young redhead with shoulder-length hair, definitely not unattractive.
In fact, she appeared quite handsome. She wore dark sunglasses and carried a stick with her to probe her way forward. Judging from this, and her movements indicating paralysis from the waist down, she was not only a paraplegic, but also blind. A bag made of fabric was sitting on her knee. She heard them enter and maneuvered her wheelchair with one hand, coming nearer to them.
"Detective Gresham?”
She said in feeble, high-tone voice. Alexander was stunned by the fact that she knew his name.
"How do you know me?"
he asked with a shuddering voice.
"Here they are."
She held up one hand, clasping the fabric bag, and one hand stretched towards him, as if she wanted to know Alexander really was there. He looked at Cynthia. She nodded with a confused expression just like his. He got the bag from her. There were 5 video tapes.
"What is this? Who gave you this?"
Alexander asked.
"I gave you them. Now, please, find Philip. He said you could search for him."
She spoke in a very excited and desperate tone. Both her hands were clutching Alexander's arm.
"Calm down, Miss. Just take it easy. Could you explain all this? How do you know me and who gave you these tapes?"
The blind woman took a deep breath. They could see tears beneath her sunglasses. She took off the sunglasses. Her frighteningly blue eyes were opened, but without focus.
"My boyfriend's uncle visited me about a month ago. He entrusted this bag to me and said, one day detective Gresham will visit me for this. And if I give this bag to him, it will help the detective to find Philip. I've waited on you a month, sir. I gave it to you now, so, you can find my Philip, right?"
"What is the uncle's name?"
"I don't know. What I know is he is Philip's uncle. That's why he said. He knew everything about Philip and me."
Alexander was disappointed. On the face of it, it would be absurd to expect a woman who is blind and can't move without a wheelchair to explain somebody's appearance.
"What is your boyfriend's full name?"
He asked her.
