"Philip Theron,"
she answered.
"How old is he?"
"About my age. He was born on April 3rd. I always made a sweater for him on his birthday. I haven't given them since. And it’s been almost 4 years.”
She indicated the kitchen table. She seemed to still be knitting sweaters for him. Alexander signaled to Cynthia with his eyes, 'inquire about the person`s name and birthday,' and she slipped out of the home to make a phone call to the office. Alexander kept talking to her.
"What's your name?"
"Chloe Silva."
"Do you live alone?"
"Yes. I don't have anyone. Philip is my only family."
"Did you marry him?"
"No, but he lived with me for a few years, until he disappeared."
Cynthia came back quietly. She whispered to Alexander.
"There's nobody named Philip Theron who was born in April, between the ages of 15-40. She doesn't look 40, but I want to make sure. There's no Philip."
"Has Philip died then?"
he asked in a quiet voice, trying not to let Chloe hear him.
"Might be. If somebody died, the person won’t show in the system,"
Cynthia answered.
"Is Philip dead?"
Chloe said with a quivering voice.
"No, Miss. I don't know. I will investigate into his whereabouts with the materials you gave me,"
Alexander tried to answer in a comforting tone.
Before leaving, he looked at Chloe again. Can she live alone in this state? Before Alexander voiced this concern, Cynthia questioned her.
"Is there somebody who can take care of you?"
Chloe looked surprised a bit by the woman's voice.
"My helper comes 2 or 3 times a week and neighbors who are close to me drop by."
They looked at their surroundings again. It was pretty neat, and there was nothing out of the ordinary or unsafe, and instead of a gas stove, there was an electric stove. But still, that could be dangerous to the blind. Alexander tried to face away from Chloe.
"Thank you so much for your cooperation,"
Alexander said politely and noted down Chloe's number.
"I will contact you if I find Philip Theron."
