4월, 스톡홀롬 여행기(2)

스웨덴 2번째 이야기로 돌아왔다. 스웨덴하면 대표적인 3가지 이미지가 떠오른다. 이케아, 미트볼, 피카의 나라. 오늘은 이 3가지를 가지고 이야기를 하고자 한다. 스톡홀롬 시청역 근처에 갤러리아 백화점이 있어서 잠시 구경차, 안으로 들어섰다. 여러 매장 안에 이케아 매장이 눈에 들어왔고 스웨덴 이케아는 어떨까? 하고 생각하며 구경했다. 갤러리 안에 있는 매장이기에 크지는 않았지만, 깔끔하고 세련된 느낌의 가구들이 눈에 들어왔다. 원목 식탁이 주는 아늑함과 간이 식탁이 주는 가지런함이 이케아가 추구하는 실용성과 디자인 모두를 보여주는 거 같아 눈이 즐거웠다. 그 안에서 스웨덴의 상징색, 노란색과 파란색의 공존이 조화롭게 느껴졌다. 

Let's back to Sweden for the second stroy. When I think of the image of Sweden, I can image three representative images. IKEA, Meatball, Fika. Today, I would like to talk these three things. There is a Galleria department store near Stockholm City Hall station, So I entered for a while. IKEA stores have been spotted in many countries, I looked around and thinked that "But what about the Swedish IKEA?". I noticed neat and sophisticated furniture, although it was not particularly big. The coziness of the wooden table and the neatness of the simple designseemed to showcase both the practicality and design that IKEA aimed for. I felt the coexistence of Sweden's symbolic colors - yellow and blue. 

깔끔함과 질서정연함의 끝판왕이었던 스웨덴 이케아

IKEA, 이케아의 뜻을 아는가? IKEA는 Ingvar - Kamprad - Elmtaryd - Agunnaryd 의 약자이다. 즉, 창립자의 이름 Ingvar와 스웨덴의 스몰랜드에 위치한 그의 고향 마을의 이니셜을 따서 지은 이름이다. 이케아의 성공은 사회민주주의를 가장 먼저 선보였던 스웨덴의 정치, 경제, 역사와 함께 이뤄졌다고 할 수 있다. 스웨덴 정부는 1950년대 모든 국민들이 자기의 집을 가질 수 잇도록 FOLKHEM이라는 공공주택 보급 정책을 시행했다. 이 때 이케아의 창립자 잉바르 Ingvar는 모든 사람에게 더 좋은 일상을 갖게 하겠다는 Democratic Design에 대한 철학을 가지고, 생산공정을 효율화하여 저렴한 가격으로 가구를 공급하게 되었다. 이것이 오늘날 조립식 이케아 가구의 시작이다. 이케아는 소비자로 하여금 자신이 구매한 제품을 직접 운반하고 조립하도록 한다. 소비자가 매장에서 선택해 구매한 가구를 배달, 조립 서비스까지 해주는 일반적인 가구업체와는 다르다. 그렇기에 조금 더 저렴하고 합리적인 가격으로 구매할 수 있고, 직접 조립하여 완성하는 과정을 통해 완성된 가구에 대해 소비자 스스로 만족감과 애정을 가지게 할 수 있는 거 같다. 구경 후에는 간단히 와플을 먹었다. 하트 5개를 이어 붙인 꽃 모양 반죽에 딸기잼과 생크림을 얹은 와플은 정말 바삭하고 달콤했다. 한국 이케아 와플을 먹어보지는 못했지만, 스웨덴 이케아 와플이 더 와플스럽고 맛있지 않을까 생각한다.

IKEA. Do you know what IKEA means? IKEA is an abbreviation for Ingvar Kamprad Elmtaryd Agunnaryd. In other words, it is named after its founder Ingvar, as well as the initials of his hometown village in Smolland, Sweden. IKEA's success can be attributed to Sweden's politics, economy, and history, as it was the first to embrace social democracy. In 1950s, the Swedish government implemented a policy called FOLKHEM to ensure that all citizens could have their own homes by increasing thesupply of public housing. At that time, the founder of IKEA, Ingvar Kamprad, embraced the philosophy of Democratic Design. His aim was to enhance the daily lives of everyone bystreamlining the production process and making furniture available at affordable prices. This is the beginning of prefabricated IKEA furniture today. IKEA offers consumers the ability to transport and assemble the products they purchase themselves. It differs from typical furniture companies that deliver and assemble furniture purchased by consumers at stores. Therefore, it seems that consumers can purchase it at a lower and reasonable price, and by assembling and completing it themselves, they can derivesatisfaction and develop an affection for the finished furniture. After watching, I ate waffles. The waffle, topped with strawberry jam and whipped cream, was attached to a flower-shaped dough with five hearts, and it was delightfully crispy and sweet. 

I haven't tried Korean IKEA waffles, but I believe that Swedish IKEA waffles are more authentic and scrumptious.

스웨덴 이케아에서 먹은 와플과 소프트콘, 또 먹고 싶다... ㅠㅠ

이케아에서 간단히 배를 채우고, 스톡홀롬 이곳저곳을 돌아다녔다. 스톡홀롬 중앙역에서 시청, 스토르토리에트 광장, 감라스탄, 올드타운까지. 사실 북유럽 국가 여행은 스웨덴이 처음이라서 비교할 수는 없지만, 이전에 다녀왔던 프랑스, 이탈리아에 비해 정반대의 분위기의 국가였기에 새롭고 즐거웠다. 4월임에도 패딩과 코트가 필수이고 저녁 6시부터 추운 공기에 바깥을 돌아다니는 것이 힘들었지만, 핑크빛 노을과 함께 구시가지의 매력을 내 뿜는 저녁 풍경은 손이 시리는 상황도 참고, 카메라를 들고 사진을 찍게 만들었다. 

I went from place to place in Stockholm. Stockholom Central Station to City Hall, stororritte square, Gamrastan and old town. In fact, Sweden is my first time traveling to Nordic countries, so it cannot be compared. But it was new and enjoyable because it offered a contrasting atmosphere to France and Italy, countries I had visited previously. The evening scene, which exudes the charm of the old city with its pink sunset, compelled me to take pictures with my hands trembling from the cold.

스웨덴 건축물은 유럽 건축물의 특징처럼 층이 낮고 건물 사이의 간격이 넓고 세련된 느낌이었다. 거리 주변은 쓰레기 하나 없이 깨끗하고 정돈된 느낌이었다. 계속 걸으면서 편집샵이나 빈티지 샵도 들르고, 거리 중앙에서 들리는 공연 음악에 심취하면서 스웨덴만의 매력에 빠지고 있었다. 바이킹의 후손 답게 바이킹 분장을 한 사람의 차력쇼와 연기 공연과 편집샵과 빈티샵에서 작고 귀여운 기념품을 보면서 눈과 귀 모두 즐거웠다.

Swedish architecture, similar to European architecture, featured low floors, wide gaps between buildings, and sophisticated designs. I felt that the area around the street looks so  clean and tidy, without any trash. While walking, I stopped by many editing shops and vintage shops. I enjoyed watching the powerful show and acting performances of a person dressed up as a Viking descendant, as well as browsing through small and cute souvenirs at the editing and vintage shops, which captured both myeyes and ears.

스톡홀롬 이곳 저곳을 누비다가 배고파진 우리는 스웨덴의 대표 음식인 미트볼을 먹으러 갔다. 스웨덴의 대표적인 요리로 손꼽히는 셰트불라(Köttbullar)는 덴마크식 미트볼로 18세기 터키에서 들여온 음식을 18세기 터키에서 들여온 음식을 스웨덴식으로 해석한 것이다. 긴 돼지고기와 소고기에 양파, 마늘, 계란, 빵가루 그리고 다양한 향신료를 넣어 동글동글 볼처럼 만든 스웨덴식 미트볼은 링곤이라는 베리로 만든 잼과 같이 먹는다. 링곤베리는 스칸디나비아의 추운 지방에서 나는 빨간색의 야생 베리인데, 섬유질과 망간이 풍부하고 비타민 E가 특히 많다. 특히, 신맛이 강해 설탕과 함께 끓여 젤리나 잼 또는 주스로도 만들어 먹기도 하지만 전통적으로 고기 요리와 함께 곁들여 먹었다. 여행 기념으로 회사 사람들과 나눠 먹기 위해 링곤베리 잼을 

몇개 구매했다. 채널 S에서 방영하는 <다시갈지도> 라는 프로그램에서 유명한 스웨덴식 미트볼 맛집을 소개하는 영상을 보게 되었는데 너무 맛있어 보여서 나도 찾아갔다. 가격은 188 크로나로 한화로 약 24,000원 정도로 싼 가격은 아니었지만 가게 분위기와 음식의 맛이 좋아 전혀 아깝게 느껴지지 않았다. 미트볼은 한입에 넣기 힘들 정도로 크지막했고 그레이비 소스를 머금고 있었다. 같이 곁들여 먹은 매쉬 포테이토는 먹자마자 입에서 사르르 녹았다. 그 옆에 링곤베리 잼과 오이로 상큼함도 동시에 느낄 수 있었다. 글을 쓰면서 스웨덴에서 먹었던 미트볼 맛이 생생하게 떠올라 조금은 고역스럽다.. 재방문 하고 싶을 정도로 정말 맛있었던 스웨덴 레스토랑이었다. We went to eat meatballs, which are Sweden's representative food. Köttbullar, one of Sweden's representative dishes, are Swedish meatballs inspired by food imported from Turkey in the 18th century. Swedish meatballs, which are made with ground pork and beef, onions, garlic, eggs, breadcrumbs, and a blend of various spices, are traditionally enjoyedwith a lingonberry jam. Ringonberries, which are red wild berries from the cold parts of Scandinavia, are rich in fiber and manganese and are particularly high in vitamin E. In particular, it is highly sour, so it is boiled with sugar and consumed as jelly, jam, or juice, but traditionally enjoyed alongside meat dishes. I watched a video introducing a famous Swedish meatball restaurant on a program called <Go Again> aired on Channel S, and it looked so delicious that I decided to visit it as well. The price of 188 Sek, equivalent to about 24,000 won, was not cheap. However, I didn't feel like a waste at all due to the pleasant store atmosphere and the delicious taste of the food. The meatballs were too big to fit in one bite, and gravy sauce in them. As soon as I ate them, the mashed potatoes, I felt my mouth melted. Next to it, I could simultaneously feel the freshness of Lingonberry jam and cucumber. While writing, the taste of meatballs I ate in Sweden comes to mind vividly, so it's a little bit painful... That Swedish restaurant was so delicious that I wanted to revisit. (Marten Trotzig)

오후 3시. 당도 떨어지고 집중력도 흐트러지는 이 시간에 독일의 철학자 칸트는 매일 산책을 했다고 알려져 있다. 칸트만의 리추얼이었던 셈인데, 그 오후 3시에 스웨덴 사람들은 피카(FIKA)를 한다. 피카란 커피와 간식을 겸한 휴식 시간을 뜻한다. 스웨덴에서 커피는 '카페 Kaffe' 인데 '카페'의 두 음절이 뒤집혀 '페카 fäka' 가 되었고, 이 말이 변형되어 오늘날 'Fika'가 되었다고 한다. 스웨덴의 피카는 한국의 커피 문화와는 다른 점이 있다. 스웨덴의 피카는 "Fika 이외의 모든 것들은 다음으로 미뤄지는 신비로운 시간"이라고 한다. 즉 커피를 마실 땐 커피를 마시는 것에만 집중한다는 것이다. 일을 하다가도 피카 시간이 되면 일에서 손을 완전히 떼고 피카를 즐기는 데 집중한다고 한다. 오후 3~4시쯤이 되면 많은 사람들이 잔디에 자유롭게 앉아 커피와 디저트를 먹으며, 편하게 대화를 하는 모습을 볼 수 있다. 스웨덴 사람들에게 Fika는 단순 휴식 이상으로 사람들과의 교감을 나누며 재충전함으로써 공동체 의식과 워라벨 동시에 가져오는 매개체라고 말할 수 있다. 나도 스웨덴 사람처럼 벤치에 앉아 따뜻한 커피를 마시고 있었다. 6개월이 지난 지금도 스웨덴 여행이 그리워질 정도로 스웨덴만의 감성과 여유로움이 좋았던 여행이었다. 분홍색으로 물든 하늘 아래 빛을 받은 스웨덴의 풍경은 잊을 수 없을 거 같다. 형형색색의 아름다웠던 스웨덴에서의 3일을 뒤로 하고 나는 기차를 타고 덴마크로 향했다.

At 3 p.m., Swedes have their own version of the coffee break called FIKA. Fika refers to 'take a break time that involves both coffee and snacks.' In Sweden, coffee is called "Cafe Kaffe," and the two syllables of "Cafe" are flipped to create "Pekka fäka," which has evolved into the term "Fika" commonly used today. Sweden's Fika culture is distinct from Korea's coffee culture. Swedish says about fika, "Everything except Fika is a mysterious time that getspostponed to the next opportunity." In other words, when you drink coffee, you only focus on drinking coffee. It is said that when it is time for Fika even while working, he completely removes his hand from work and focuses on enjoying Pika. Around 3-4 p.m. Many people are sitting freely on the grass, enjoying coffee and desserts, and small talks. I was sitting on a bench, drinking hot coffee just like a Swedish. Even Six months later, I still miss a lot about sweden trip. I never forget the scenery of Sweden, illuminated by the pink suset. After enjoying days in Sweden, I am ready to go a trip to Denmark.
