하루살이

새벽이 오면 깨어나
햇살을 처음 맞이하고
저녁이 오면
별빛을 처음 보네

처음 숨 쉬고
처음 울고
처음 사랑하고
처음 이별하네

모든 순간이 시작이자 끝이니

시간의 꼬리를 잡으려 애쓰지 않고

내일을 향해 손을 뻗지도 않는다네

벗이여,

그대는 수많은 내일을 믿으며
무수한 오늘을 그냥 흘려보내지 않았는가

만약 내일이 없다면
이 순간은 얼마나 빛날까

나는

오직 하루뿐인 존재,
그러니 이 하루 안에
영원을 품네

Who Am I? (21)

I am

a mayfly

At dawn I awaken,

greeting sunlight for the very first time,

and when evening falls,

I gaze upon starlight for the first time

I take my first breath,

my first cry,

my first love,

and my first farewell

Every moment is both a beginning and an end,

so I do not grasp at the tail of time

nor reach out toward tomorrow

Friend,

have you not let countless todays drift away,

trusting in the endless promise of tomorrows?

If there were no tomorrow,

how brightly would this moment shine?

I am

a being of but a single day,

and so within this one day,

I cradle eternity
