나에게 예술이란 벽 앞에 내려놓은 꽃 한 송이
The Wall and the Flower
아무것도 할 수 없을 때가 있다.
두꺼운 벽 앞에서 모든 길이 막혔음을 깨달을 때,
그 어떤 힘으로도 이 벽을 뚫을 수 없다는 것을 알 때.
나는 벽 아래 꽃을 내려놓는다.
슬픈 마음을 담아, 나약함을 담아,
생명이 줄 수 있는 최선을 담아 조용히
꽃을 내려놓는다.
연약함을 온몸으로 드러낼 때,
우리의 진정한 아름다움이 빛을 발한다.
나에게 예술이란
그 벽 앞에 내려놓은 꽃 한 송이와 같다.
벽이라는 현실 앞에서, 그 절대적인 차이 앞에서
더욱 빛나는 나약함이다.
인간은 무엇일까?
어떤 일들을 겪어왔기에,
어떤 삶을 살아왔기에
이토록 약할수록 빛이 나고,
눈물조차 빛나는 존재가 되었을까?
실수는 필연이고,
실패는 착각이다.
그 누구도 꽃이 바람에 꺾이는 것을
실패했다고 말하지 않는다.
생명은 그 자체로,
존재 자체로 황홀한 것이다.
벽은 여전히 견고하게 서 있지만,
그 앞에 놓인 꽃은 벽보다 더 큰 진실을 말한다.
우리가 할 수 있는 일이 아무것도 없을 때조차,
우리에게는 여전히 사랑할 수 있는 힘이,
아름다움을 만들어낼 수 있는 힘이 남아있다.
그것이 인간이고,
그것이 예술이며,
그것이 우리가 이 세상에 존재하는
이유일지도 모른다.

When there are times
when we can do nothing at all.
When we realize before a thick wall that
all paths are blocked,
when we know that no force can
break through this wall.
I lay down a flower beneath the wall.
With a sad heart,
with frailty, quietly I lay down the flower,
containing the best that life can offer.
When we reveal our vulnerability
with our whole being,
our true beauty shines forth.
To me, art is like that single flower
laid down before the wall.
Before the reality of the wall,
it is frailty that shines even brighter
in the face of that absolute difference.
What is a human being?
What experiences have we lived through,
what kind of life have we lived to become
beings who shine brighter
the more vulnerable we are, whose tears
even glisten beautifully?
Mistakes are inevitable,
failure is an illusion.
No one says that a flower has failed
when it breaks in the wind.
Life itself, existence itself, is rapturous.
The wall still stands firm,
but the flower placed before it speaks
a greater truth than the wall.
Even when there is nothing we can do,
we still have the power to love,
the power to create beauty.
That is what it means to be human,
that is art, and that may be the reason
we exist in this world.
