작가는 끊임없이 만들고 부수기를 반복한다.
작품을 빚어내고, 엎어버리고, 다시 세우고를 반복한다. 그 과정에서 작품은 좀처럼 작가의 마음에 안착하지 않는다. 마치 길들여지지 않은 야생동물처럼, 작가의 손길을 피해 달아나려 한다.
수없이 많은 작은 실패들이 쌓인다. 미묘한 어색함, 예상과 다른 결과들, 의도와 어긋나는 표현들. 이런 크고 작은 좌절들이 층층이 쌓여 비로소 작품은 작가의 마음 한편에 조심스럽게 자리를 잡아간다.
창조자와 피조물 사이에는 묘한 거리감이 존재한다. 작가는 내면의 회의론자와 대화하며, 내면의 완벽주의자와 타협하며, 내면의 게으름뱅이를 달래 가며. 그 목소리가 마침내 나 자신에게 닿았을 때, 그때서야 그 목소리는 확실하게 밖으로도 퍼져나간다.
이런 과정을 거쳐 세상에 나온 작품은 과연 누구를 위한 것일까? 관객을 위한 것일까, 아니면 작가 자신을 위한 것일까? 예술은 분명 이 시대를, 우리 모두의 것을 담아낸다. 하지만 작가는 작품이 세상에 나오기 전 가장 까다로운 검열관이다.

자신의 첫 번째이자 가장 혹독한 관객이 되어 작품을 바라본다. 날카롭게 평가하고, 가차 없이 질타하고, 깊이 후회하고, 때로는 미워하기도 한다. 그리고 그 모든 감정들을 견뎌낸다. 쓸모없음과 무력감까지도. 만약 작품이 작가인 '나' 자신을 설득하지 못한다면, 타인의 어떤 찬사도 공허할 뿐이다.

Art x Shift
Artists endlessly repeat the cycle of creating and destroying. They shape their work, overturn it, and rebuild it again and again. In this process, the work rarely settles comfortably in the artist's heart. Like an untamed wild animal, it tries to escape the artist's touch.
Countless small failures accumulate. Subtle awkwardness, unexpected results, expressions that deviate from intention. These large and small frustrations layer upon layer until finally the work cautiously finds its place in a corner of the artist's heart.
A strange distance exists between creator and creation. The artist converses with their inner skeptic, negotiates with their inner perfectionist, and soothes their inner laziness. When that voice finally reaches myself, only then does it surely spread outward to the world. Who is the work that emerges through this process really for? Is it for the audience, or for the artist themselves? Art certainly captures this era, what belongs to all of us. But the artist is the most demanding censor before the work meets the world.
The artist opens an exhibition first for themselves. They become their own first and most ruthless audience, viewing their work. They evaluate it sharply, criticize it mercilessly, regret it deeply, and sometimes even hate it. And they endure all these emotions. Even the feelings of uselessness and powerlessness. If the work cannot convince "me" the artist, then any praise from others would be nothing but empty words.

아트쉬프트는 예술이 단순한 결과물에 그치지 않고,
예술과 삶, 작가와 관객이 함께 어우러지는 공간입니다. 작업실, 전시공간, 카페, 굿즈샵이 결합된 이곳은 예술가의 창작 과정과 그 안에 담긴 고민, 서사를 자연스럽게 나누며, 예술이 일상 속에 스며드는 문화를 만들어가고자 합니다.
We created Art x Shift with the intention of transforming the way we as a visual artist couple engage with art. Art x Shift is a space where art goes beyond being a mere outcome, becoming a place where art, life, and the connection between artists and audiences coexist. With a combination of a studio, exhibition space, café, and a shop, this space naturally shares the process of creation, the challenges, and narratives within, while fostering a culture where art seamlessly integrates into everyday life.
