날개로 이룰 수 없는 하늘
The Sky That Wings Cannot Reach
우리는 종종 자유로움을 잘못된 곳에서 찾는다. 더 많은 돈을 벌면, 더 큰 권력을 잡으면, 더 높은 자리에 오르면 자유로워질 거라 믿는다. 그러나 그것들은 잠시의 만족일 뿐이다. 돈은 잃을까 두렵고, 권력은 빼앗길까 불안하며, 성취는 곧 더 큰 성취를 요구한다. 결국 힘으로 쌓아 올린 자유로움은 더 무거운 속박이 된다.
어린아이가 엄마 손을 잡고 길을 건넌다. 아이는 세상을 통제할 힘이 없지만, 엄마 손을 붙잡는 순간 두려움 없이 걸음을 내딛는다. 아이의 자유로움은 자기 힘이 아니라 더 큰 힘에 의지하는 데서 비롯된다. 자유로움은 성취로 얻는 결과가 아니라, 자신의 약함을 알 때 주어지는 선물이다.
우리는 내 마음대로 하는 것이 자유라고 착각한다. 유한한 존재는 끝내 날개를 갈망한다. 날개만 있으면 하늘을 날 수 있을 거라 믿으며, 날지 못하는 운명을 한계 탓으로 돌린다. 그러나 자유로움은 날개에 있지 않고, 하늘 그 자체에 있다. 진정한 해방은 날개가 아니라, 하늘을 아는 데서 온다.
하늘을 안다는 것은 나의 한계를 인정하는 일이다. 완벽해야 한다는 강박에서 벗어나고, 모든 것을 통제하려는 집착을 내려놓을 때 비로소 숨이 트인다. 그때 흠이 있는 하루도 충분히 의미 있고, 어긋난 순간조차 배움이 된다.
자유로움은 내 마음대로 하며 책임을 버리는 것이 아니다. 오히려 두려움 없이 책임을 감당하게 하는 힘이다. 그래서 삶은 성취로 쟁취해야 하는 자유가 아니라, 이해 속에서 깨닫는 자유로움이 된다. 그것은 모든 것을 맡기고 깊은 잠에 들 수 있는 평안이다. 이것이 하늘에 몸을 맡긴 진정한 자유이다.

Art x Shift
We often look for freedom in the wrong places. We believe that if we earn more money, gain greater power, or rise to higher positions, we will become free. But such things bring only momentary satisfaction. Money brings fear of loss, power brings anxiety of being taken away, and achievement demands ever greater achievement. In the end, the freedom built on strength becomes a heavier chain.
A child holds the hand of their mother while crossing the street. The child has no power to control the world, yet the moment they grasp that hand, they step forward without fear. The child’s freedom does not come from their own strength but from relying on a greater one. Freedom is not the result of achievement, but a gift given when we recognize our weakness.
We often mistake doing whatever we want as freedom. A finite being endlessly longs for the infinite. Believing that wings would let us fly, we blame our lack of wings or our circumstances for keeping us bound. But freedom is not in the wings; it is in the sky itself. True release comes not from wings, but from knowing the sky.
To know the sky is to acknowledge our limits. When we are freed from the pressure to be perfect and let go of the obsession to control everything, we can finally breathe. Then even a flawed day carries meaning, and even a disrupted moment becomes a chance to learn.
Freedom is not living as we please or abandoning responsibility. It is the strength to carry responsibility without fear. Thus life is no longer a freedom to be seized through achievement, but a freedom discovered in understanding. It is the peace of entrusting everything and being able to fall into deep sleep. This is the true freedom of resting in the sky.

저희는 미술작가 부부로서, 예술을 만나는 방식에 변화를 시도하고자 아트쉬프트를 만들었습니다. 아트쉬프트는 예술이 단순한 결과물에 그치지 않고, 예술과 삶, 작가와 관객이 함께 어우러지는 공간입니다. 작업실, 전시공간, 카페, 굿즈샵이 결합된 이곳은 예술가의 창작 과정과 그 안에 담긴 고민, 서사를 자연스럽게 나누며, 예술이 일상 속에 스며드는 문화를 만들어가고자 합니다.
We created Art x Shift with the intention of transforming the way we as a visual artist couple engage with art. Art x Shift is a space where art goes beyond being a mere outcome, becoming a place where art, life, and the connection between artists and audiences coexist. With a combination of a studio, exhibition space, café, and a shop, this space naturally shares the process of creation, the challenges, and narratives within, while fostering a culture where art seamlessly integrates into everyday life.
