아담은 어떻게 몰랐을까
How Could Adam Not Know?
복음을 이해하려면 반드시 1층부터 쌓아야 한다. 그 1층은 단순하지만 결정적이다. 아담이 선악과를 먹고 벗은 것을 깨달았다. 그는 처음으로 자신의 몸을 의식하며 숨었다. 여기서 중요한 질문이 생긴다. 성경에 따르면 아담은 흙에서 났고 이브는 그의 갈비뼈에서 취해졌다. 육체는 이미 존재했다. 그런데 어떻게 그들은 자신의 몸을 보지 못했을까?
나는 그 답을 '눈'에서 이해했다. 그들은 다른 눈으로 세상을 보고 있었다. 영적인 눈으로 살았기에 육체는 존재했지만, 그것을 대상으로 의식하지 않았다. 선악과를 먹은 순간 "눈이 밝아졌다"는 것은 새로운 능력을 얻은 것이 아니라 보는 눈이 바뀐 것이다. 영의 시각이 닫히고 육체의 눈이 열렸다. 영의 눈이 감긴 것, 그것이 하나님과의 단절이자 인간의 사망이었다.
이제 인간은 육체의 눈으로만 세상을 본다. 강아지는 빨강이 없는 세상, 물고기는 자외선까지 보는 세상에 산다. 같은 눈을 가진 자들끼리만 같은 세상을 공유한다. 인간은 인간의 세상에 갇혀 있다. 물고기가 물속에서 세상을 보듯, 우리 역시 육체라는 물속에서 세상을 본다. 완전한 진실을 보려면 다른 눈이 필요하다.
성경은 이 상태를 '장님'이라 부른다. 가장 큰 문제는 자신이 장님인 줄 모른다는 것이다. 육체의 눈으로는 잘 보고 있다고 생각하기 때문이다. 예수님은 말씀하셨다. "보지 못한다 하였더라면 죄가 없으려니와 본다고 하니 너희 죄가 그대로 있느니라." 자신이 보지 못함을 인정하는 순간, 진짜 눈이 열릴 가능성이 생긴다. 하지만 "나는 보고 있다"고 확신하는 순간, 인간은 진짜 장님이 된다.
보지 못하는 우리를 하나님은 외면하지 않으셨다. 보이지 않는 하나님을 믿기 어려운 우리에게, 하나님은 보이는 형태로 다가오셨다. 우리와 같은 몸으로, 예수님으로 오신 것이다. 성경은 우리를 양에 비유한다. 눈이 잘 보이지 않는 양은 목자의 음성을 듣고, 그 소리를 따라간다. 믿음은 들음에서 난다. 이것이 영적으로 눈먼 우리를 위해 하나님이 택하신 방법이다.

Art x Shift
To understand the gospel, you must begin from the first floor. That first layer is simple yet decisive. Adam ate the forbidden fruit and realized he was naked. For the first time, he became aware of his own body and hid. Here a question arises: according to Scripture, Adam was formed from dust and Eve from his rib. Their bodies already existed. So how could they not see them?
I found the answer in the eyes. They once saw the world through a different kind of sight. They lived with spiritual vision, and although their bodies existed, they did not see them as objects. When they ate the fruit and their “eyes were opened,” it did not mean they gained new ability; it meant the way they saw had changed. The vision of the spirit closed, and the vision of the flesh opened. The closing of that spiritual sight was the beginning of separation from God and the death of the soul.
Humans now see the world only through the eyes of the flesh. Dogs live in a world without red, and fish see into the ultraviolet. Only those who share the same kind of eyes can share the same world. Humanity is trapped within the human world. Just as a fish sees the world from within water, we too see it from within the body. To see the whole truth, we need another kind of sight.
Scripture calls this state blindness. The greatest tragedy is not realizing that one is blind, for the eyes of the flesh seem to see clearly. Jesus said, “If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains.” The moment a person admits they cannot see, true vision begins to open. But the moment they are certain they see, they become truly blind.
God did not turn away from those who could not see. Knowing that it is hard for us to believe in what is unseen, He came to us in a form we could see, in a body like ours, as Jesus. Scripture compares us to sheep. Sheep that cannot see well follow the voice of their shepherd. Faith comes from hearing. This is the way God chose to reach those who are spiritually blind.

We created Art x Shift with the intention of transforming the way we as a visual artist couple engage with art. Art x Shift is a space where art goes beyond being a mere outcome, becoming a place where art, life, and the connection between artists and audiences coexist. With a combination of a studio, exhibition space, café, and a shop, this space naturally shares the process of creation, the challenges, and narratives within, while fostering a culture where art seamlessly integrates into everyday life.
