넘어가는 날
Passover
유월절 사건은 하나님이 이스라엘을 애굽의 종살이에서 구원하시기 위해 일으킨 마지막 심판의 밤이었다. 하나님은 애굽의 모든 첫째 아들을 치시겠다고 하셨지만 이스라엘에게는 단 하나의 방법이 주어졌다.
집마다 흠 없는 어린양을 잡아 그 피를 문에 바르는 것. 그 밤에 하나님이 심판으로 애굽을 지나가실 때 문에 피가 발라진 집은 넘어가셨다. 피로 덮인 집에는 재앙이 들어갈 수 없었다. 양이 죽었다는 사실뿐만이 아니라 그 피가 문에 발라졌다는 것이 심판을 넘어가게 했다. 그래서 그날을 유월절, 넘어가는 날이라고 부른다.
이 사건은 신약에서 완전히 드러난다. 죄 없는 어린양이었던 예수님은 십자가에서 죽으셨고 그 보혈로 우리의 죄가 씻겼다. 예수님은 십자가에서 구원을 완성하셨다. 그러나 그 완성된 구원이 나에게 적용되지 않는다면 여전히 나와 무관한 과거의 일일 뿐이다.
유월절 밤에 양을 잡은 것으로 끝나지 않았다. 누군가가 우슬초를 들고 그 피를 직접 문에 발라야 했다. 마찬가지로 예수님의 죽음은 우리를 위한 완전한 사건이지만, 그 보혈이 나에게 적용될 때 비로소 그 사건은 내 삶이 된다.
여기서 질문이 생긴다. 이미 흘려진 피가 어떻게 지금 이 순간 내 삶에 발라질 수 있는가. 시간과 공간을 뛰어넘어 그 피가 오늘 나에게 작용하는 일은 어떻게 가능한가.
바로 이 일을 성령님이 하신다. 여기서 중요한 구조가 드러난다. 유월절 밤에는 양을 잡고 피를 바르는 두 단계가 있었다. 신약 시대에도 두 단계가 있다. 예수님이 어린양이심을 믿는 것, 그리고 성령을 구하는 것. 차이는 이것이다. 구약에서는 둘 다 사람의 행위였지만, 신약에서는 둘 다 믿음의 응답이다. 양은 이미 죽으셨고, 성령님이 우리 삶에 오신다. 우리에게 요구되는 것은 행위가 아니라 믿음이다. 예수님을 믿고 성령님을 구하는 것, 이것이 우리 시대의 믿음이다.
삼위일체 하나님은 이 과정 전체에 함께 일하신다. 하나님은 구원의 계획을 세우셨고 예수님은 십자가에서 그 계획을 완성하셨다. 그리고 성령님은 그 완성된 구원을 지금 여기 우리의 삶에 적용하신다. 성령님은 보혜사로 오셔서 동행하시며 우리의 삶을 새롭게 하신다. 유월절의 밤에 심판이 넘어갔던 것처럼 하나님은 성령을 통해 오늘 우리의 삶에서도 넘어가심을 이루시고 마지막 날까지 우리를 붙잡아 이끄실 것이다.

Art x Shift
The Passover was the night of the final judgment God brought in order to deliver the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. God declared that He would strike down every firstborn in Egypt, but He gave the Israelites one instruction.
Each household was to take a spotless lamb, slaughter it, and put its blood on the doorframe. When God passed through Egypt in judgment that night, He passed over every house with blood on its door. No plague could enter a house covered by the blood. It was not only that the lamb died, but that the blood was applied to the door, that caused judgment to pass over. That is why the day is called Passover, the day of passing over.
This event is fully revealed in the New Testament. Jesus, the Lamb without sin, died on the cross and His blood washed away our sins. Jesus completed salvation on the cross. Yet if that completed salvation is not applied to me, it remains a historical event that has nothing to do with my life.
On the night of Passover, it did not end with the lamb being killed. Someone had to take a bunch of hyssop, dip it into the blood, and apply it to the doorframe. In the same way, the death of Jesus is a perfect act done for us, but it becomes part of my life only when His blood is applied to me. Then a question arises. How can blood that has already been shed be applied to my life today. How can something that happened beyond time and space reach me here and now.
This is the work of the Holy Spirit. Here an important structure is revealed. On the night of Passover there were two actions. The lamb was killed, and the blood was applied. In the New Testament the same two movements exist. Believing that Jesus is the Lamb, and asking for the Holy Spirit. The difference is this. In the Old Testament both actions were carried out by human hands, but in the New Testament both are responses of faith. The Lamb has already died, and the Holy Spirit comes into our lives. What is required of us is not performance, but faith. To believe in Jesus and to ask for the Holy Spirit. This is the faith of our time.
The Triune God works together in this entire process. The Father planned salvation. The Son completed that plan on the cross. And the Holy Spirit applies that completed salvation to our lives here and now. The Holy Spirit comes as our Counselor, walks with us, and renews our lives. Just as judgment passed over the houses marked by blood on the night of Passover, God continues to bring passing over into our lives through the Holy Spirit, and He will carry us until the final day.

We created Art x Shift with the intention of transforming the way we as a visual artist couple engage with art. Art x Shift is a space where art goes beyond being a mere outcome, becoming a place where art, life, and the connection between artists and audiences coexist. With a combination of a studio, exhibition space, café, and a shop, this space naturally shares the process of creation, the challenges, and narratives within, while fostering a culture where art seamlessly integrates into everyday life.
