내 것이 아닌 것을 빼앗길 수 있는가
여행하며 체크아웃할 때 쫓겨났다고 생각하지 않는다. 좋았다. 잘 지냈다. 즐거웠다. 그래서 감사함으로 남는다. 이 방은 잠시 머무는 곳이라는 사실을 처음부터 끝까지 알고 있기 때문이다. 이곳의 모든 것이 내 것이 아니라는 것도 알고 있기 때문이다.
인생도 다르지 않다. 우리는 인생에 체크인했고 모두 체크아웃한다. 그런데 유독 인생의 어떤 순간들에서는 억울하게 쫓겨났다고 말하고 빼앗겼다고 말한다. 그러나 억울함은 상실에서 오지 않는다. 권리에서 온다. 마음에서 이미 내 것이라 선언한 순간, 모든 끝은 부당한 추방이 된다.
욥기는 말한다. 주신 이도 여호와시요 거두신 이도 여호와시다. 하나님이 가장 의롭다 하신 욥은 이유 없이 모든 것을 잃는다. 아내도 자녀도 재산도 건강도 사라진다. 고통 속에서 욥은 울부짖는다. 그러나 질문은 이것이다. 욥은 빼앗긴 것인가, 아니면 주셨던 것을 비로소 마주한 것인가. 하나님은 빼앗는 분이 아니다.
선악과를 먹은 이후 인간은 자기 자리를 착각했다. 피조물의 자리를 떠나 주인의 자리에 서려했다. 그 결과 우리는 모든 것을 권리로 이해하기 시작했다. 그러나 원래 우리의 자리는 사망이다. 소유자가 아니라 아무것도 주장할 수 없는 자리다. 그래서 0은 다 빼앗긴 자리가 아니다. 0은 내 것이 없는 자리다. 처음부터 내 것이 하나도 없었음을 아는 자리다. 1은 0을 아는 사람만이 이해할 수 있다.
사랑이신 하나님은 다 내려놓으라고 하지 않는다. 다시 받으라고 하신다. 소유가 아니라 선물로 다시 받으라고 하신다. 권리가 아니라 은혜로 다시 받으라고 주신다. 사망이 우리의 자리인 그 한계 안에서도 하나님은 욥의 생명은 건드리지 못하게 하신다. 감사는 애써 만들어내는 감정이 아니다. 감사는 원래 0이 어디인지 아는 사람에게 1로 남는 것이다.

-Can something that was never mine be taken away-
We do not think we are being driven out when we check out after a trip. It was good. We stayed well. We enjoyed it. And it remains as gratitude. Because we knew from beginning to end that this room was only a place to stay for a while. Because we knew that nothing here belonged to us.
Life is no different. We check in to life, and we all check out. Yet in certain moments of life, we say we were unjustly pushed out, that something was taken from us. But resentment does not come from loss. It comes from entitlement. The moment we declare something as ours in our hearts, every ending becomes an unjust expulsion.
The Book of Job says, “The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away.” Job, whom God Himself called righteous, loses everything without cause. His wife, his children, his possessions, his health all disappear. In his suffering, Job cries out. But the question remains. Was he robbed, or did he finally face what had been given. God is not one who steals.
After eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, humanity misunderstood its place. We left the place of the created and tried to stand in the place of the owner. From then on, we began to understand everything as a right. But our original place is death. A place where nothing can be claimed. That is why zero is not the place where everything was taken away. Zero is the place where nothing was ever ours. Only those who know zero can understand one.
The God who is love does not tell us to let everything go. He tells us to receive again. Not as possession, but as gift. Not as right, but as grace. Even within the boundary where death is our place, God does not allow Job’s life to be touched. Gratitude is not an emotion we manufacture. Gratitude is what remains as one to those who know where zero truly is.
