World war started in weak link

Normally, big and strong country starts to attack weaker country and war begins. In this case, wars (quickly) ended so wars don’t spread widely. But unexpectedly, world war started at not that strong and big countries in history. It started some kind of weak link.

If Putin uses nuclear weapons, many countries will be destoyed. But I think the starting place is not russia.
