Chapter XVIII (제18장)
> The darkness had materially increased, relieved only by the glare of the water thrown back from the white curtain before us.
어둠은 현저히 짙어졌고,
우리가 향하고 있는 하얀 장막에서 반사된 물빛의 섬광만이 그 어둠을 조금 덜어줄 뿐이었다.
> Many gigantic and pallidly white birds flew continuously now from beyond the veil, and their scream was the eternal “Tekeli-li! Tekeli-li!”
수많은 거대하고 창백한 새들이
그 장막 너머에서 끊임없이 날아 나왔으며,
그들의 울음소리는 **영원히 되풀이되는 “테켈리-리! 테켈리-리!”**였다.
> As we rushed into the embraces of the cataract, I heard the voice of Nu-Nu in half shriek, half chant, “Tekeli-li! Tekeli-li!”
우리가 그 폭포 같은 장막 속으로 돌진하던 순간,
나는 누-누의 목소리를 들었다.
그는 반은 비명처럼, 반은 노래처럼 울부짖으며 말했다.
“테켈리-리! 테켈리-리!”
> And now we rushed into the embraces of the cataract, where a chasm threw itself open to receive us.
그리고 마침내 우리는 그 거대한 흰 폭포의 품 안으로,
마치 열린 심연이 우리를 받아들이려는 듯한 틈으로 돌진해 들어갔다.
> But there arose in our pathway a shrouded human figure, very far larger in its proportions than any dweller among men.
그러나 그 길목에는 수의를 두른 인간의 형상이 솟아올랐다.
그 형상은 어떤 인간보다도 훨씬 거대했으며, 사람이라기엔 너무나 초월적인 존재처럼 보였다.
> And the hue of the skin of the figure was of the perfect whiteness of the snow.
그 형상의 피부색은 완벽한 눈의 흰색,
즉, 절대적인 백색이었다.
