Chapter XVII (제17장)
> The Jane Guy was a fine-looking topsail schooner of the burden of one hundred and eighty tons.
‘제인 가이’호는 **톤수 180톤의 아름다운 톱세일 스쿠너선(소형 범선)**이었다.
> She was exceedingly well found, and, in all respects, fitted out in the best manner possible for a long voyage.
그 배는 장비가 매우 잘 갖춰져 있었으며, 긴 항해에 가장 이상적인 방식으로 준비되어 있었다.
> Her crew consisted of thirty men, besides the captain and mate — most of them natives of Liverpool — and were a remarkably fine set of fellows.

> Captain Guy was a gentleman of great urbanity and intelligence, and although somewhat hasty in temper, was still universally respected and obeyed.

> It was three feet in length and about six inches in height, with four very short legs.

> There were vast numbers of sea fowl, and immense flocks of the albatross, which we brought down by dozens at every discharge of the musket.

> Seals were numerous, and, after some trouble, we succeeded in taking five.

> On this day the sea was of an extraordinarily dark color, resembling in its hue the most sombre blue of the prism—this circumstance occasioned us much surprise.

> Some of the seamen affirmed that this was owing to the bottom, which might possibly be black sand; but this opinion was not received with much credit.

> They were larger than any we had ever seen, and were of a species altogether unknown to us.

> Their bodies were black, with shining white beaks and eyes, and wings of a vivid blood-red.

> Captain Guy and most of his officers were much excited with the appearance of these birds, and looked upon them as sure indications of land.
