역설적인 계명

사람들은 변덕스럽고 불합리하며 자기중심적이다.

    그럼에도 그들을 사랑하라.

네가 선을 베풀면 숨은 의도가 있다고 여길지 모른다.

    그럼에도 선한 일을 하라.

네가 성공하면 거짓 친구와 진정한 적을 얻을 것이다.

    그럼에도 성공하라.

네가 오늘 한 좋은 일은 내일 잊힐 수도 있다.

    그럼에도 좋은 일을 하라.

너의 정직과 솔직함 때문에 상처받을지 모른다.

    그럼에도 정직하고 솔직하라.

 

가장 큰 생각을 품은 위대한 사람도

가장 작은 생각을 가진 사람에 의해 쓰러질 수 있다.

    그럼에도 위대한 꿈을 꾸어라.

사람들은 약자를 동정하면서도 강자만을 따른다.

    그럼에도 소수의 약자를 위해 싸워라.

네가 오래 쌓아 올린 것이 하룻밤에 무너질지 모른다.

    그럼에도 그것을 쌓아 올려라.

사람들은 도움을 원하지만 도와줘도 비난할지 모른다.

    그럼에도 그들을 도우라.

네가 가진 최고의 것을 줘도 모자란다고 할 것이다.

    그럼에도 최고의 것을 주어라.

People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.

   Love them anyway.

If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.

   Do good anyway.

 If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies.

   Succeed anyway.

The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.

   Do good anyway.

Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.

   Be honest and frank anyway.

The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.

   Think big anyway.

People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.

   Fight for a few underdogs anyway.

What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.

   Build anyway.

People really need help but may attack you if you do help them.

   Help people anyway.

Give the world the best you have and you'll get kicked in the teeth.
