Parents and Mentors: People Who Support One’s Life Forever

There is a kid who is really smart. Plus, he’s honest, mature, and very kind. He is also sociable and easily gets along with others. How can a child be like that? It is possible thanks to support of his parents and mentors. The novel The Graveyard Book written by Neil Gaiman is a story of a boy whose parents are murdered getting raised by the ghosts in the graveyard. The author demonstrates that in the society, the support of parents and mentors raising and teaching their child can make them more knowledgeable and develop to a generous adult and also it encourages them.

In the first place, the author suggests the support of parents and mentors help their kid more informed and grow to a mature adult and it also cheers them by the story of Mr. and Mrs. Owens. In chapter 1, when Nobody comes into the graveyard, Mrs. Owens decides to take care of him with his husband. She says, “I can look after him, as well as his own mama. She already gave it to me” (22). Her care leads to Bod became more knowledgeable and wise. Mrs. Owens meets Bod’s mom and gets proactive with taking care of him. She wants him to be a good adult with her precious care and effort. With her care, Bod could also be a generous adult. In chapter 1, Mrs. Owens persuades Mr. Owen to take care of him together. He says, “If you’ll be its mother, I’ll be its father” (17). Also thanks to Mr. Owen’s decision to care Bod, Bod could be generous and knowledgeable by his education and lessons. He also wants to take care of Bod and make him into a knowledgeable adult.

The author suggests that the support of parents and mentors support their kid more smart and help them turn into a kind adult and it also cheers them by showing Silas, and Miss Lupescu. In chapter 6, Bod learns a life lesson from Silas. He says, “You’re alive, Bod. That means you have infinite potential”. (179) Because Bod is alive, he is able to do things that he wants. During Bod’s childhood, Silas taught many lessons to him. He gave feedbacks, comments, and more so Bod became knowledgeable. Silas is a perfect mentor. Also, in the end of chapter 3, Bod says about the things that he learned from Miss Lupescu to Silas. He says, “That’s the big bear and her son, the little bear. That’s Draco the Dragon, snaking between them”. (97~98) Bod learned about the constellations from Miss Lupescu. She also wants Bod to be knowledgeable and experience and learn man thins while she teaches him. Silas teaches Bod with field training but Miss Lupescu teaches Bod with only theories. Their styles are totally different. The books message is that thanks to the mentors and the teachers next to you, people can learn many things during their childhood.

In conclusion, the author implies that in the society, the support of parents and mentors raising and teaching, their child can make them more knowledgeable and develop to a generous adult and encourage them. The author wants readers to respect their parents and mentors because of their support, people can shine bright and live their life happily.
