Assume vs Presume

presume : suppose that something is the case on the basis of probability

확률(가능성)을 바탕으로 뭔가가 그럴 거라고 가정하다, 추정하다

assume : basing your information on nothing – no facts.... just your belief gathered from the air

아무것에도 바탕을 두지 않는 정보 – 사실 없이 단지 여기저기서 모은 너의 신념에만 기반을 둔

presume : based on evidence or facts

증거나 사실에 바탕을 둔

그러니까 presume은 assume에 비해 어느 정도의 확률과 가능성을 가지고 미리 추정해보는 것입니다.

Assume and presume both mean to believe something before it happens, but when you assume you're not really sure. If someone bangs on your door in the middle of the night, you might assume it's your crazy neighbor. If your neighbor knocks on your door every night at 6:30, at 6:29 you can presume she's coming over in a minute.
