Discipline is a key to living a successful life.
In order to achieve what you want, you need discipline and self-control. By training yourself discipline, you will have the power to achieve your goal. If you want to become a writer, you should sit at your desk and start to write everyday. If you want to learn a new language, you must practice speaking, reading, listening and writing. In order to achieve what you want, you have to put it into action. It all takes self-discipline.
A society that has lost delaying gratification
However, in modern society we want instant gratification. We watch videos instead of reading books. you can easily absorb information without effort. We procrastinate what we have to do and scroll sns. Those are easy to do and addictive. It eats up our time and attention. In the end, there is no time and energy left to do what we have to do. The more we get used to instant gratification, the more we lose the power to self-control. Eventually, we lose the ability to focus and think.
Delaying gratification
Self-discipline begins with putting off instant gratification. Instead of grabbing a slice of pizza, you choose a bowl of salad for your health. Instead of using a smartphone, you read a book when you get bored. Those actions require delaying gratification. Whenever you choose an action that is useful in the long run, you can develop discipline skills.
Pomodoro technique
The basic way of practicing self-discipline is using a timer and concentrating on your task for 25 min. When your session ends, take a 5 min break. And start the next session. If it is possible, you can repeat 4 sessions. After four pomodoros, take a long break 25 to 30 minutes. When you set a time, you’re more likely to focus on your tasks because there is a beginning and an end. The more you have a focused time, the more you improve and have the possibility to achieve your goals.
Daily exercising helps you develop self-discipline
When you exercise on a regular basis, you practice to overcome laziness and push yourself to do a difficult task everyday. Once it becomes your daily habit, you're more likely to have another healthuy habit because you get used to forcing yourself to do some challenges. And you also have the power to cope with temptations that drag you down.
Discipline is the key to living a life you want.
