진짜 이야기를 담은 책.

오늘도 만난 사람들과 <더 히스토리 오브 더 퓨쳐>에 대한 이야기를 했다. 이 책은 700쪽이 넘어서 엄청난 벽돌 책이지만 이 책을 읽기 시작한 사람들은 700쪽이 아니라 1000쪽이 넘어도 문제 없이 즐겁게 읽을 수 있을 정도로 몰입감이 최고인 책이다. 아마존의 후기를 살펴봐도 거의다 이구동성으로 이 책이 디테일이 얼마나 대단한지 또 동시에 거대한 이야기를 얼마나 임팩트있고 흥미진진하게 써내려가는지 극찬 일색이다. 정말 비즈니스에 관심이 있거나 현재 진행형 기술 및 세상의 흐름을 읽고 싶은 사람은 읽지 않으면 후회할 책이 바로 <더 히스토리 오브 더 퓨쳐>다.

진짜 이야기를 담은 책.

매우 많은 정보가 들어있고 몰입하기 쉽다. 언론에서 다루지 않았던 오큘러스의 역사에 대해 알게 되는 것은 매우 흥미로웠다. 자료들을 모으고 다듬는 작업에 큰 노력이 들어갔음을 알 수 있었고 그건 책의 신뢰도를 높여주었다. 팔머의 관점에서 바라본 이야기, 그리고 페이스북과 미디어가 지금까지 숨겼던 사실들이 들어있다. 긴장감이 넘치고 마지막까지 몰입할 수 있다.

Lets the real story out

Very informative and engaging. After following these events as they happened, it was fascinating to see the other side of the story, behind the scenes. You can tell how much work went into gathering all the source materials and letting them shine, which gives the book credibility. In this book Palmer’s side of the story, and the actual facts, long surpressed by Facebook and the media, finally come to light.

The writing is suspenseful and engaging the whole way through.

이 책은 VR을 현실화시키고 싶어한 한 10대의 실제 이야기를 담고 있다. 그는 기술 스타트업을 창업하는 것에 대한 리스크, 투자자들의 피로, 마감일의 압박, 기술적 어려움, 그리고 경쟁자들을 극복해야 했다.

이 책은 이 모든 이야기를 훌륭하게 담고 있다. 처음부터 끝까지 말이다. (스포를 하지는 않겠다!)

난 블레이크 해리스가 라디오에서 이야기하는 걸 들은 후 이 책을 샀다. 재밌어 보여서 샀는데 일할 때와 잘 때, 가족들과 함께 있는 시간 외에는 책을 손에서 놓을 수 없었다. 계속 읽기만 했다.

책을 이틀 만에 다 읽었고 어린 발명가이자 기업자, 그리고 VR을 대중들에게 전파한 팔머 럭키의 강인함과 인내에 감동했다.

Whoa! What a story! A Must Read. Couldn't put it down.

This book steps you into the true story of a young teenager who wanted to bring VR to life for himself and a few other gamers and VR enthusiasts.

You're the fly on the wall, right there seeing and experiencing all that goes on, as he is caught up in the high stakes of a Tech startup, investors intrigue, the highs and lows of deadlines, technical challenges, competitors and more.

The book covers it all, superbly, from beginning to end with the rise of success to the crushing blow of... (no spoilers here!)

I purchased the book after hearing the author (Blake J. Harris) on the radio. Sounded good, so got it and started reading and couldn't put it down except for work, sleep, and time with family. Otherwise I was reading, reading, reading.

Finished in two days and was blown away by the story and the strength and resilience of Palmer Luckey, the young inventor and entrepreneur, as well as the cast of characters in the true story of resurrecting the Holy Grail of bringing Virtual Reality to the masses.

이 책은 우리가 논픽션 중 가장 애정하는 책이다. 다 읽어버렸다는 사실이 너무 아쉽다. 세 명이 이 책을 읽었는데 모두 다 책을 손에서 놓고 싶지 않아 했다. 정말이다! 저자의 뛰어난 글솜씨 덕분에 매우 신나는 방식으로 VR의 역사에 대해  알 수 있었다. 책을 프로그램에 소개한 글랜 백에게 감사하다. (이 책의 저자와 이 이야기의 등장인물에도 말이다. 특히 팔머 럭키에게 감사하다) 우리는 이 책을 매우 추천한다!

It's almost like being captivated by all the details - and we're loving it!!

This has been our favorite non-fiction read so far - absolutely hate having to stop reading it! There are three of us who started reading this book together, and it's been really hard to wait for all three of us to find time to continue reading. Seriously! This has been so fascinating - great writing and such a tremendous way to learn about the background of V.R., etc... Thanks so much to Glenn Beck for pitching this book on his show!! (And, of course, thanks to the great writer and to all those who are part of this amazing story - especially Palmer Luckey) We highly recommend reading this book!!!

정말 이게 실화인지 소설인지 구분이 가지 않을 정도로 몰입감이 좋다. 진심으로 강력하게 추천하는 책이다. 꼭 읽어보기를 바란다.
