명사의 단수 형태에서 복수형을 만드는 규칙을 이해했다면, 불규칙적으로 변하는 복수형에 대해 지도해보자. 규칙형은 단수에 ‘~s’ 나 ‘~es’를 붙이면 되지만 불규칙 복수형은 어쩔 수 없이 암기할 수밖에 없다. 불규칙 형이 나오면 먼저 입으로 말해 익숙하게 해 주는 게 효과적인 방법이다.
