110. Things that can act like adjectives
문장에서 형용사처럼 쓰이는 것들에 지도해 보자. 즉 형용사처럼 명사의 성질을 규정해주거나 주어의 상태를 묘사해 주는 역할을 한다. 그전에 형용사에 대한 내용을 다시 한번 복습해 본다.
Q: What is an adjective? 형용사가 뭐지?
A: An adjective can change a noun. 형용사는 명사를 바꿀 수 있다.
Beautiful girl, tall boy ; beautiful, tall, they are adjectives. 아름다운 여자, 키 큰 남자: ‘아름다운’, ‘키가 큰’- 이것들은 형용사이다.
An adjective can describe the subject. 형용사는 주어를 묘사해 준다.
She is beautiful. He is tall. 그녀는 아름답다. 그는 키가 크다.
Q: What other things can be adjectives? 어떤 것들이 형용사 역할을 할 수 있을까?
A: Past participle can be adjectives. 과거 분사가 형용사 역할을 할 수 있다. Present participle can be adjectives. 현재 분사가 형용사 역할을 할 수 있다.
When the subject is a person, we use past participle(P.P). 주어가 사람인 면 우리는 과거 분사형을 쓴다.
When the subject is a thing, we use “present participle” (“V ~ing” ). 주어가 사물이면 우리는 현재 분사형을 쓴다.
He is excited. 그는 신이 났다. It is exciting. 그것은 신이 난다. He is frightened. 그는 겁이 났다. It is frightening. 그것은 겁난다. He is tired. 그는 피곤하다. It is tiring. 그것은 지친다. He is interested. 그는 재미있어한다. It is interesting. 그것은 흥미롭다. He is bored. 그는 지겹다. It is boring. 그것은 지겹다.
