23. The location idiom 지도법

위치를 설명하기 위해 전치사를 쓰기도 하지만 이렇게 몇 개의 단어가 모인 숙어를 지도할 때 손을 활용해 직접 가리키면서 말로 해보게 한다.

Q: What are the location idioms? 무엇이 위치 관용 문구일까?

A: ‘at the top of’, ‘at the bottom of’, at the side of, and in the middle of, they are the location idioms. ‘꼭 대기에’, ‘아래에’, ‘옆에’, 그리고 ‘가운데’를 위치 관용 문구(숙어)라고 한다.

For example, Jimmy is at the top of the stairs. 예를 들면, Jimmy는 계단 꼭대기에 있다.

Max is at the bottom of the stairs. Max는 계단 아래에 있다.

(Gesture: What are the location idioms? ‘the location idioms’ 제스처는 왼손 검지와 엄지를 수직으로 펼쳐 ‘L’ 자를 만들고, 오른손의 새끼 손가락만 세운다. 영어 sign language(수화)의 ‘i’에 해당한다.

A: ‘at the top of’, ‘at the bottom of’, at the side of, and in the middle of, they are the location idioms. ‘at the top of’,‘ 은 왼손을 펼쳐 손바닥이 밖으로 향하게 한다. 그런 후 펼쳐진 손끝을 다른 손으로 가리킨다. ’‘at the bottom of’는 펼쳐진 손바닥의 아래 부분을 다른 손으로 가리킨다. ‘at the side of,’는 펼쳐진 손바닥의 옆쪽 부분을 가리킨다. ‘in the middle of’ 은 왼쪽 손바닥을 눕혀 그 중앙에 오른손의 검지와 중지를 세워 넣어주는 느낌을 주면 된다.

For example, Jimmy is at the top of the stairs. 계단이라는 느낌은 왼손과 어른 손이 교차로 올라가는 느낌을 준다. Max is at the bottom of the stairs.)

위치 관용구에 대한 표현을 다음과 같이 말할 수 있어야 한다. 비록 초급 과정이지만 내용을 이해하고 표현하는 연습을 통해 location, idiom, stairs 등의 단어들을 자연스럽게 알게 된다.
