35. Ordinal numbers and Cardinal number

서수와 기수 개념은 생각보다 쉽게 이해하고 사용할 수 있다. 한국의 아이들이 수학에 강한 이유 중의 하나가 수의 규칙성 때문이라고 하기도 한다. 영어의 경우 중간에 바뀌는 수의 불규칙 성이 수 개념을 이해하는데 약간의 방해 요소가 되지만 입으로 먼저 익숙해지는 경우 큰 어려움은 없다.

수의 개념을 영어로 배우는 법을 알아보자.

A:‘first’, ‘second’, ‘third’, ‘fourth’, ‘fifth’……….. and so on. They are ordinal numbers. (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th ……). 첫째, 둘째, 셋째, 넷째, 다섯째... 등등.. 그것들을 서수라고 한다.

A: One, two, three, four, five……and so on. They are cardinal numbers. 하나, 둘, 셋, 넷, 다섯.... 등등.. 그것들을 기수라고 한다.

‘first’, ‘second’, ‘third’, ‘fourth’, ‘fifth’……….. and so on. They are ordinal numbers. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th ……. 손바닥이 아래로 향하게 하여 한 손 씩 교차해서 위로 올라가듯이 제스처를 해준다. ‘and so on’은 손바닥이 옆으로 향하고 손을 세워 안쪽에서 바깥쪽으로 두드리듯이 나아간다.
