접속사 개념을 지도하는 방법을 알아보자. 단어와 단어를 연결해주고 문장과 문장을 연결해주는 접속사의 역할을 예시문을 통해 구체적으로 이해할 수 있다.
Q: What are conjunctions? 접속사가 뭐지?
A: And, but, because.... and so on; they are conjunctions. Conjunctions connect two words or two sentences. ‘and, but, because’ 등등을 접속사라 한다. 접속사는 두 단어나 두 문장을 연결해 준다.
Q:What about ‘and’? ‘and’는 요?
A: ‘And’ connects two equal words or two equal sentences. ‘and’는 두 개의 같은 단어나 같은 문장을 연결합니다.
I can swim and I can ride a bicycle. 나는 수영을 할 수 있고 자전거도 탈 수 있다.
Q: What about ‘but’? ‘but’는 요?
A: ‘But’ connects two opposite words or two opposite sentences. ‘but’는 두 개의 반대되는 단어나 두 개의 반대되는 문장을 연결한다.
She can cook, but she can`t sew. 그녀는 요리를 할 수 있다. 그러나 그녀는 바느질은 할 수 없다.

‘And’ connects two equal words or two equal sentences. ‘equal’은 양쪽 손을 주먹 쥐고 서로 살짝 부딪히게 한다.

What about ‘but’?
‘But’ connects two opposite words or two opposite sentences. 반대되는 느낌은 ‘but’와 동일한 제스처로 양손의 엄지를 바깥쪽으로 향하게 한다.
She can cook, but she can`t sew. 요리하다는 느낌을 주기 위해 왼손은 구부려 원을 만들고 그 위에 오른손으로 뭔가를 잡고 섞듯이 돌려주면 된다. ‘can`t sew’는 양 팔로 서로 교체해서 알파벳 ‘x’를 만들어 준 후 한 손으로 뭔가를 꿰매듯이 오른쪽에서 왼쪽으로 나아가면 된다.)
결국, 접속사라는 개념을 이해하고 예시문까지 영어로 다음과 같이 말할 수 있어야 한다. 말할 수 있는 지식 즉 설명할 수 지식만이 제대로 배운 것이다.
