Newness of Life

All Souls

November is the month of death. It starts with All Saints that celebrate all those who lived faithfully in accordance with the Lord's commandments. Some are known as saints, but most are unknown whom we remember as good people.

When I think of a saint, I recall my grandfather who lived well and truly loved me. Even though he was not baptized nor heard of Jesus, I believe he is in heaven with God because he was an anonymous Christian.

Today we celebrate the commemoration of the all the faithful departed known as All Souls.

I love All Souls as much as All Saints because I can pray for the dead especially those whom I loved and admired.

We are all connected in which the dead and the living are in the hands of God.

How beautiful is it to remember and pray for the deceased on All Souls!

Let us pause a moment to pray for the beloved ones who went to God ahead of us.

We are to depart someday which makes us remember and value the preciousness of life. If we want to live in newness of life, we need to celebrate All Saints and All Souls as our future.

St. Paul teaches us, "We were indeed buried with Christ Jesus through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might live in newness of life"(Rom 6,4).

Amen.
