친구 여러분, 나는 '이 모든 일이 언제 일어날 것인가'라는 물음은 다룰 필요가 없다고 생각합니다.
I don't think, friends, that I need to deal with the question of when all this is going to happen.
주님께서 오실 날을 달력에 표시할 수 없다는 것은, 나도 알고 여러분도 아는 사실입니다.
You know as well as I that the day of the Master's coming can't be posted on our calendars.
그분은 미리 연락하거나 약속 일자를 정하지 않고 도둑처럼 오실 것입니다.
He won't call ahead and make an appointment any more than a burglar would.
모든 사람들이 "우리는 확실히 성공했어! 이제 편히 살아도 돼!"라고 말하며 서로 축하하고 만족하며 느긋해할 때, 갑자기 모든 것이 산산조각 날 것입니다.
About the time everybody's walking around complacently, congratulating each other-"We've sure got it made! Now we can take it easy!"-suddenly everything will fall apart.

It's going to come as suddenly and inescapably as birth pangs to a pregnant woman.

그러나 친구 여러분, 여러분은 어둠 속에 있지 않으니, 그런 일로 당황할 일은 없을 것입니다.
But friends, you're not in the dark, so how could you be taken off guard by any of this?
여러분은 빛의 아들이며 낮의 딸입니다.
You're sons of Light, daughters of Day.
탁 트인 하늘 아래서 살아가는 우리는, 우리가 서 있는 곳이 어디인지 잘 압니다.
We live under wide open skies and know where we stand.
그러니 다른 사람들처럼 몽롱한 채로 다니지 맙시다. 눈을 크게 뜨고, 빈틈없이 살아가야 합니다.
So let's not sleepwalk through life like those others. Let's keep our eyes open and be smart.

People sleep at night and get drunk at night. But not us!

Since we're creatures of Day, let's act like it.

Walk out into the daylight sober, dressed up in faith, love, and the hope of salvation.
9-11
하나님께서는 우리를 진노의 심판에 이르게 하신 것이 아니라, 우리 주 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 구원에 이르게 하셨습니다.
God didn't set us up for an angry rejection but for salvation by our Master, Jesus Christ.
그분이 우리를 위해 죽으셨습니다. 그리고 그분의 죽음이 생명을 일으켰습니다.
He died for us, a death that triggered life.
산 자와 함께 깨어 있든지 죽은 자와 함께 잠들어 있든지, 우리는 그분과 함께 살아 있습니다!
Whether we're awake with the living or asleep with the dead, we're alive with him!
그러니 서로 격려의 말을 하십시오. 소망을 든든히 세우십시오. 그러면 여러분은 한 사람도 빠지거나 뒤처지는 일 없이, 모두가 그 소망 안에 있게 될 것입니다.
So speak encouraging words to one another. Build up hope so you'll all be together in this, no one left out, no one left behind.

I know you're already doing this; just keep on doing it.

친구 여러분, 부탁드립니다. 여러분을 위해 열심히 수고하는 지도자들, 여러분의 순종에 따라 여러분을 권면하고 이끄는 책임 맡은 이들을 존중하십시오.
And now, friends, we ask you to honor those leaders who work so hard for you, who have been given the responsibility of urging and guiding you along in your obedience.
감사와 사랑으로 그들을 감동시키십시오!
Overwhelm them with appreciation and love!
13-15
서로 사이좋게 지내고, 각자 자기 몫의 일을 하십시오.
Get along among yourselves, each of you doing your part.
우리의 조언은 이것입니다. 거저 얻어먹기만 하는 사람들에게 힘써 일하라고 주의를 주십시오.
Our counsel is that you warn the freeloaders to get a move on.
뒤처진 사람들을 온유하게 격려하고, 지친 사람들에게 손을 내밀어 그들을 일으켜 세우십시오.
Gently encourage the stragglers, and reach out for the exhausted, pulling them to their feet.
서로 참고, 각 사람의 필요에 주의를 기울이십시오.
Be patient with each person, attentive to individual needs.
서로 신경을 건드려 화를 돋우지 않도록 조심하십시오.
And be careful that when you get on each other's nerves you don't snap at each other.
서로에게서 최선의 모습을 찾아보고, 언제나 그것을 이끌어 내기 위해 최선을 다하십시오.
Look for the best in each other, and always do your best to bring it out.
16-18
무슨 일에든지 기뻐하십시오. 항상 기도하십시오. 무슨 일에든지 하나님께 감사하십시오.
Be cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens.
이것이야말로 하나님께서 그리스도 예수 안에 있는 여러분에게 바라시는 생활방식입니다.
This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live.
19-22
성령을 억누르지 마십시오. 주님께 말씀을 받은 사람들을 막지 마십시오.
Don't suppress the Spirit, and don't stifle those who have a word from the master.
그러나 쉽게 속지는 마십시오. 모든 것을 꼼꼼히 따져 보고, 선한 것만을 간직하십시오. 악에 물든 것은 무엇이든 내다 버리십시오.
On the other hand, don't be gullible. Check out everything, and keep only what's good. Throw out anything tainted with evil.
23-24
모든 것을 거룩하고 온전하게 하시는 하나님께서 여러분을 거룩하고 온전하게 하시고 여러분의 영과 혼과 몸을 온전하게 하셔서, 우리 주 예수 그리스도께서 오실 때 그에 합당한 사람이 되게 해 주시기를 바랍니다.
May God himself, the God who makes everything holy and whole, make you holy and whole, put put you together-spirit, soul, and body-and keep you fit for the coming of our Master, Jesus Christ.
여러분을 불러 주신 분은 완전히 의지할 만한 분이십니다. 그분께서 말씀하셨으니, 그분께서 이루실 것입니다!
The One who called you is completely dependable. If he said it, he'll do it!
25-27
친구 여러분, 우리를 위해 계속 기도해 주십시오.
Friends, keep up your prayers for us.
그곳에 있는 예수를 따르는 모든 이들과 거룩한 포옹으로 인사하십시오.
Greet all the followers of Jesus there with a holy embrace.
이 편지를 모든 형제자매에게 반드시 읽게 하십시오.
And make sure this letter gets read to all the brothers and sisters.
한 사람도 빼놓지 말고 읽게 하십시오.
Don't leave anyone out.
