USGA Handicap system 기준 (2012 ~ 2015)
핸디캡 계산하는 것은 생각만큼 그렇게 간단하지만은 않습니다.
단순히 핸디 2개건, 3개건 주고 받고 해서 경기를 진행하는것이 일반적이겠습니다만,
실제로 핸디캡을 계산하여 공정한 경기를 하기 위해 여러가지 용어들과 개념들이 필요합니다.
책 한권을 모두 설명드릴 수 없으니, 간략한 용어를 우선 정리 드리고 스코어카드에 나와있는 slope rate, course rate를 참조해 보시지요.
- Active Season : An "active season" is the period during which scores made in an area are acceptable for handicap purposes determined by the authorized golf association having jurisdiction in a given area. 핸디캡 산정 기준 기간 의미
- Adjusted Gross Score : An "adjusted gross score" is a player's gross score adjusted under USGA Handicap System procedures for unfinished holes, conceded strokes, holes not played or not played under the principles of the Rules of Golf, and Equitable Stroke Controls.
컨시드를 받아 계산된 스코어나, 페날티를 받아 계산된 스코어 모두를 감안하여 정리된 최종 스코어를 의미 합니다. 어렵게 영어로 표현하였지만, 단순한 스코어 카드의 최종 합계 점수로 이해하시면 됩니다.
- Course Handicap : A "Course Handicap" is the USGA's mark that indicates the number of handicap strokes a player receives from a specific set of tees at the course being played to adjust the player's scoring ability to the level of scratch or zero-handicap golf. For a player with a plus Course Handicap, it is the number of handicap strokes a player gives to adjust the player's scoring ability to the level of scratch or zero-handicap golf.
라운딩할 코스와 티에 특정한 핸디캡을 계산하는 USGA의 기준입니다.
스크래치골퍼나 낮은 핸디캡퍼들과 경기할때 받게되는 핸디캡을 코스의 난이도를 감안한 핸디캡과 함께 계산합니다. 경기전에 해당 코스에서의 궁극적인 핸디캡 숫자입니다.
- Handicap Differential : the difference between a player's adjusted gross score and the USGA Course Rating of the course on which the score was made, multiplied by 113, then divided by the Slope Rating from the tees played and rounded to the nearest tenth.
Adjusted Gross Score와 Course Rating의 차이에 113(표준 slope rating)을 곱하고, 경기를 한 곳의 slope rating으로 나눈값을 말합니다. Gross Score는 실제 타수이고, Course Rating와 Slope Rating은 아래 그림과 같이 스코어 카드에 해당 골프코스의 정보가 표시됩니다.
스코어 카드의 Course Rating과 Slope Rating 참고 
Course Rating과 Slope Rating 참조 위에서 처럼 Handicap Differential 값이 다수 만들어 지면, 평균이되는 Handicap Differential에 0.96을 곱해 조금 더 낮춥니다. 0.96이라는 숫자는 USGA에서 그냥 지정한 숫자입니다.
해당 Handicap Differential이 자신의 Handicap Index를 만들어주며, 해당 Handicap Index를 통해 다시금 Course Handicap을 계산하여 경기장에서 활용하게 됩니다.
예를 들어 보겠습니다.
1. 남자 골퍼가 middle tee에서 플레이하며, 해당 코스의 티는 C.R(Course Rating)이 70.3 입니다. 상대는 back tee에서 플레이하는 골퍼이며 해당 C.R(Course Rating)은 72.6입니다. 이경우 단순히 72.6 - 70.3 = 2.3으로 rounding하여 2개의 핸디캡만 back tee에서 플레이하는 선수에게 추가적으로 부여하면 됩니다.
혹은, Course Rating과 Slope Rating을 모두 고려하여 아래와 같이 계산하는 방식도 적용 가능합니다.
2. 핸디캡 18인 보기 플레이어가 위 센테리움 cc의 E+S 코스 White Tee에서 플레이를 할 경우 Course Handicap계산은 어떻게 하면 될까요? (18*128) / 113(표준 Slope Rating) = 20.4 이 됩니다.
실제 핸디캡이 18이 아닌, 센테리움 cc에서는 20.4이 핸디캡이 되는 것이지요. 핸디 좀 더 받겠네요.
이외에, 각 플레이별(예를 들어, 매치플레이냐, 스트로크 플레이냐, 스트로크 플레이중에서도 individual이냐, Four-ball Stroke play냐, Best Ball play냐, Foursome stroke play냐 등)에 따라 핸디캡 구하는 방식이 나뉘고, 여러 가지 계산법이 동원됩니다.
요약하면, 가장 중요한 자신의 Handicap Index계산은 위의 Handicap Differential에 의해 결정됩니다.
참! 한가지 더, Course Rating과 Slope Rating은 Course Rating Review Committee가 별도로 존재하며, authorized golf association이 해당 클럽에 등급을 주관합니다. 골프 산업이 매우 발달한 미국이 주도하고 있습니다... 어떻게 Course Rating을 정하는지 궁금하신가요?... 책에 나와 있는데, 정리하기 몹시도 귀찮습니다. 이건 골프실력과 관련 없으니 그냥 넘어 갈께요.
