청루소일(靑樓消日) 재해석
성형을 마치고 집안으로 들어오다.
신윤복, <청루소일>, 조선 후기아홉 번째로 소개드릴 작품은 <청루소일>입니다.
이 그림의 장면 그대로를 읽어낸다면 생황을 불며 오입쟁이와 무료한 한낮을 보내는 기녀가 있는 기방에 외출에서 막 돌아온 의녀기생이 몸종아이와 들어오는 순간을 포착한 모습입니다. 만약 이 그림이 어떠한 글을 위한 삽화로 제작된 것이라면 글의 이해에 윤활유 역할을 하여 재미가 배가 되었을 것 같습니다. 그러나 지금 상황으로는 그저 마루에 왜 신발이 한 켤레만 놓여있는지, 등장인물들은 무슨 관계인지 등의 의문만 드네요... 혜원의 그림에서 두드러지는 배경묘사가 김홍도의 그림과 특히 다른 점이라 할 수 있습니다. 그럼에도 단조로운 배경처리 덕분에 이 작품은 햇볕이 쨍한 낮의 건조한 느낌입니다. 그런 이유로 화면 안의 네 인물의 몸짓과 행동, 복장에 더욱 눈길이 갑니다. 오른쪽의 전모 밑 가리마를 쓴 의녀 기생의 복장에서 가장 눈에 띄는 것이 '전모'입니다. 이는 조선시대 기생들이 외출을 할 때 햇빛 가리개 용으로 쓰던 모자로 지금의 양산이나 모자와 같은 역할을 합니다. 조선후기 피부미용에 관심이 있던 기생을 그린 그림에서 심심찮게 등장하고 있네요.
The nineth piece I'd like to introduce is "Chungrusoil". If one were to read the scene depicted in this painting, it captures the moment when a young female entertainer, returning from an outing, enters a room where another entertainer is playing a flute-like instrument, and a man is leisurely spending the afternoon. If this painting were created as an illustration for a written piece, it would likely have played a role in enhancing the understanding of the text, adding an extra layer of amusement. However, in the current context, questions arise about why only one pair of shoes is placed on the floor and the relationships between the characters.
The prominent background depiction in Hye-won's painting can be considered a notable difference from Kim Hong-do's work. Nevertheless, due to the simple background treatment, this piece conveys the dry atmosphere of an afternoon. For this reason, the gestures, actions, and attire of the four characters within the frame draw even more attention. The most noticeable aspect of the attire of the entertainer on the right, wearing a wide-brimmed hat called 'Jeonmo'. This was a sunshade used by courtesans during the Joseon era when they went out, serving a role similar to today's parasols or hats. It's interesting to see it appearing in a painting depicting a courtesan with an interest in skincare from the late Joseon period.

디지털버전 <청루 소일> 완성작, A finished digital version재해석 작품은 어느 늦은 저녁, 간단하게 저녁의 다과시간을 갖고 있던 부모님께 안면 윤곽과 코를 고치는 '거사'를 마치고 얼굴과 목까지 붕대를 칭칭 감고 이를 가리기 위해 챙이 큰 모자를 쓴 딸이 집으로 걸어 들어온 모습입니다. 이 집 막둥이인 불독은 왠 낯선 사람이 들어온 양 놀라서 계속 짖고 있네요...
The reimagined scene unfolds on a late evening as the parents enjoy a simple tea time. Their daughter returns home after undergoing facial contouring and nose surgery, her face and neck wrapped in layers of bandages. To conceal the bandages, she wears a wide-brimmed hat, completing her transformation. The youngest member of the household, a bulldog, continues to bark incessantly, startled by the presence of this seemingly altered figure.
재해석 작품의 이야기는 모든 걸 남부럽지 않게 가졌지만 항상 외모가 불만이었던 딸이 결국 얼굴 사이즈부터 모든 걸 스스로 고치고 제 발로 들어왔습니다. 뒤쪽의 가족사진으로 보아 사랑과 기대를 한 몸에 받고 있는 외동딸로 보이며, 강아지의 사진이 가족사진의 크기와 비등한 것으로 반려견에 대한 애정도를 짐작할 수 있습니다. 오른쪽 현관 복도 쪽의 '현실과 꿈'의 두 세계를 표현했다는 피카소의 여인 그림은 상징적인 역할을 하고 있습니다. 집안의 뾰족뾰족한 식물들이 깜짝 놀라면서도 화가 난 부모님과, 성형을 하기까지 여러 가지 고통을 감내했을 딸을 대변해 주는 은유적 요소들로 쓰였습니다. 《혜원전신첩》의 다수의 작품들과 다르게 원작에서 눈에띄는 은유적 요소들을 찾을 수 없었지만 재해석 작품에서는 집안의 소품들로 나타내 보았습니다.
The reimagined narrative tells the story of a daughter who, despite having everything enviable, was always dissatisfied with her appearance. Eventually, she took matters into her own hands, starting with altering her facial features and walking into the house with newfound confidence. The family photo in the background suggests that the daughter, who clearly receives love and expectations from the family, has undergone a significant transformation. The photo of the dog, seemingly equivalent in size to the family photo, implies the profound importance of the pet in this household.
The portrayal of Picasso's painting "Le Rêve" on the right side of the hallway symbolically represents two worlds. The pointed plants inside the house serve as metaphorical elements, expressing the parents' surprise and anger, as well as the daughter's endurance of various pains leading up to her decision to undergo plastic surgery.

개인의 선택이지만 이러한 큰 성형수술을 마치고 긴 마취에서 깨어나 도와주는 사람 없이 혼자 걸어 들어오기란 쉽지 않은 일입니다. 이날까지 모든 것을 비밀리에 진행하던 딸에게는 얼마나 큰 용기가 필요했을까요? 이 장면 다음으로 여기 등장한 부모님은 자신들이 물려준 얼굴을 고친 딸을 혼내기보다는 붕대를 풀 날을 기대하며 무사히 돌아온걸 '다행이다.'라고 하는 장면이 펼쳐질 수 있을까요?

It is a personal choice, but waking up from a long anesthesia and walking in alone without assistance after undergoing such hazardous plastic surgery is not an easy feat. How much courage did the daughter need to have to carry out everything in secret until this day? Following this scene, can we expect the parents, instead of scolding their daughter for altering the face they passed down, to express relief and anticipation for the day when the bandages are removed without any complications?
