Autumn of Changdeokgung

2015    2016    2018

On a rainy day in October 2018, the Huwon of Changdeokgung Palace scenery was particularly memorable. It rained hard enough to soak my clothes even though I used an umbrella. I didn't like rain in the past because I used to be worried about my camera getting wet. But that day, I somehow wanted to go into the pouring rain. I had so much fun that day, soaking wet and taking pictures of a rainy landscape. It also reminded me of the old days, running and playing in the rain. I found some photos taken that day were blurry because of the raindrops splashed on the lens, but they also looked beautiful, as the unpredictable nature created the moment. Interpretation can be varied depending on how you perceive the object. Shouldn't we also look at ourselves more generously and warmly? Even if we are not perfect every moment, we are beautiful enough as we are now.

As it happens, that day was one of the few days when the general public can freely look around the site without a curator, so I was able to take pictures of the scenery of the places I’ve always wanted to record such as Buyongji Pond, Aeryeonji Pond, and Yeongyeongdang. Making an unnecessary addition, I accidentally deleted the folder containing the original photos taken that day one day and was utterly frustrated. Fortunately, however, a folder with the copies remained so that I could resurrect and publish them in this book.
