문법] #36 갑자기 나와서 깜놀하는 전치사 “to"

This is the key for my room. 뭐 이상한거 없나요?

*쉰살이 넘은 저는 아직도 영어를 배우고 있습니다. 제가 올린 내용에 혹시 틀린 것이 있으면 알려주세요. 저 계속 배우고 시포~~요~~~~  그리고 [구독] 꾹~ 눌러주세요~!! 

안녕하세요, 

제가 중고등학교때 영문법을 그닥 열심히 공부하지를 않아서인지, 영어로 말하거나 글쓰기를 할때 문득문득, 아 이런게 있었네,  하는 경우가 종종 (보다는 너무 자주^^) 있습니다. 

그중에 하나가, 전치사 to 가 생각지 못한 곳에서 불쑥불쑥 나올 때 입니다. 아참, 위에 소제목의 답을 먼저 알려드리면,  그 문장은 틀렸습니다. This is the key “to” my room. 가 되어야합니다. 우편함 열쇠, 라고 하면 꼭 소유를 나타내는 of 혹은 용도를 나타내는 for 가 뒤이어 나올 것 같은데 “the key to”가 맞습니다.  

올해 들어 1일 1문장을 외우고 있는데, 여기서도 벌써 두곳에서 나왔던 패턴이기도 합니다. 

Day 10] ….pain and suffering is the key “to” all windows.  

Day 9] …. The answer “to” each is the same.   

그래서 전치사가 좀 깜놀한 자리에서 쓰이는 것들을 아래처럼 모아보았습니다. 물론 이미 알고 계셨던 분들도 계셨겠지만요.

마지막으로. 누구의 남편/아내/assistant, 이럴때도 to를 쓰더라구요.  좀 평등적인 느낌을 주기도 하는 것 같아요.

미국 대통령 Joe Biden의 트위터를 보면, 자기 소개란에, husband to @DrBiden 이라고도 썼더라구요.
