더구나 해당 근로자는 범죄자가 아닌, 미국에 투자한 우리나라 기업을 위해 타지에서 땀 흘려 일하던 노동자이다. 며칠 전까지만 해도 대통령이 미국 대통령과 만나 관세 협상에서 성과가 있었다는 보도가 나왔지만, 불과 며칠 후 이런 참담한 사건이 발생했다. 그러나 정작 우리 정치권은 제대로 된 대응조차 하지 못한 채 시간을 흘려보내고 있다. 대통령은 침묵으로 일관하고, 외교부 장관은 "필요하면 워싱턴으로 가겠다"는 원론적인 말만 내놓는다.

The anguish of the worker’s family, watching their loved one dragged away in chains, is beyond description, and the entire nation shares in their fury and humiliation. Despite the massive capital invested to build factories and create jobs, if this is the treatment we receive, it is not merely a personal matter but a national disgrace.
The incompetence of our political class is exposed all the more starkly in such a crisis. A government that cannot protect the human rights and safety of its people has no reason to exist. By diplomacy or by politics, through whatever means necessary, swift action should have been taken. Yet in reality, the situation has been dragging on for days. A political establishment steeped in incompetence and irresponsibility has no excuse to offer before the people.
The people demand an immediate, practical solution. Not hollow diplomatic “achievements” for show, but responsible action to rescue citizens suffering abroad. The political leadership must stop complacently stalling, face the people’s anger and humiliation head-on, and respond swiftly and decisively. That is the very reason politics exists, and the minimum duty a state owes to its people. And of course, going forward, companies themselves must also strictly abide by the immigration laws of the host country, ensuring flawless legal documentation before dispatching any workers.
